I've been watching these model runs since it looks like the smoke may try to approach here on Thursday. The HRRR surface visibility product has widespread 1-3 mi visibilities with some areas even below 1 mile. That would cause some really serious air quality issues.
That sounds about right. Bureaucracy at it finest! Hopefully lessons were learned and the created provisions for that going forward, but that said, I'm sure there is red tape that would prevent such smart thinking.
