We had a rough windstorm on May 1st 2021 with leaves fully emerged. A few weeks before the cicada invasion began. I remember that one like it was yesterday.
The NWS did issue a high wind warning for 60mph gusts, but we ended up overperforming with 65-70mph because an unexpected line of showers rolled out of the mountains and mixed down even stronger wind from aloft. Also surface temps were running ~ 5°F warmer than modeled, so the mixing layer was deeper to begin with.
Lots of branches and stuff came down, though thankfully we didn’t lose any. Lucky it was a N/W wind..if it was an E/SE wind we would’ve been without power for weeks.
