Rates really slacked off. 2.6" today through 3:40pm.

That banding in Iowa is heading for areas south of the WI/IL stateline.

Def looks like for N IL from I-80 to the IL/WI border will get the most accumulations out of this event.  Snowfall rates may be pretty heavy for the Hawks game in 2 hours.  A solid 3-5" looks good, maybe a little more.

Any Illinois fans on here!?!? Go Illini baby!!

Yup, nice win against Michigan State. I'm actually thinking about going there for college, but I may not because their Meteorology department isn't as good as other in-state schools like Northern Illinois.

Makes sense. If I wasn't going to college to play football, I would have gone to Illinois. Love it down there. All the other state schools are pretty good too, like Northern.

Looking like most of the snow will be done by 12am. Probably the most intense will be through by 10.

Anywhere North of I-80 looks good for some decent snow, I think the heaviest band might set up on the I-88 to I-90 corridors, if not a little South of them. Maybe a little higher performing than I was thinking, heavy snow at the moment, but not the heavy snow I like.

Where are you going? Do you have a scholarship or something?

I just came home from seeing my niece and driving back was getting real slick out there.  I gotta say, it certainly feels and looks like mid-January rather than the 1st day of March.  Temps in the mid 10's, powdery snowfall, winds crankin' out of the north and a fresh blanket of snow everywhere.  This system may not be the big one we were hoping for but it will do in my book.

I'm going to Augustana College in Rock Island, IL to play. I don't have a scholarship..got offered one by Quincy, but turned it down because their program isn't good. Augustana is a D3 school so they can't offer, but Illinois is D1 so I obviously wouldn't play there.

I'm noticing more moisture feeding into the back end of the main band in SE NE/N KS.  Looks like its tapping to moisture from the south and water vapor imagery confirms the increase in moisture supply over KS/NE.  This may elongate the band even longer than anticipated.

It's windy there Tom? It is almost calm here.

Up to 1.8" with this 2nd wave. 3.1" total today.

Good radar returns, but the flake size is tiny.

@ Geo's, Ya, the wind has picked up from earlier today out of the N @ 10mph here.  It wasn't blowing much earlier today.  Snow starting to pile up now with these heavier returns.  Picked up 0.6" from the 1st wave, 1.0" so far from the 2nd wave.

Do they count seasonal snowfall only during meteorological winter?

Well... Annual snowfall runs the whole span. The 71.2" I think is the annual.

Wait seasonal is the annual.

Ratios today have been hanging right around 12:1. Thought the colder readings tonight would make a difference, but not really.

0.9" of water for 1.1" inches of snow since 4pm.

Probably hit 4" here. Looks like Dubuque is done and Freeport is almost done now.

Southern Lake and northern Cook County look prime for awhile.

35dbz rates popping up in N IL right now...

Looks like Omaha is getting creamed right now...anyone have a measurement out there???

Ended up with about 3/4-1". Came down decent for a while but that was it and now it's over. Another disappointment. The big deal now is the cold. Already down to 0 with a 20 mph wind. We're supposed to break the record low tonight and get down to -8. Tomorrow set a record low high of 2, and tomorrow night a record low of -13. We're going to have our coldest low of this winter here in March

Looks like it will be done about 9pm. Back edge approaching Rockford. Still pixie dust here. Would have been cool to see ultra high ratios.
