Yeah, unironically assuming this winter is some "new normal" is definitely doomerism. We have had shitty non-winters like this before (2014-15, 2002-03, 1991-92, 1982-83, 1980-81, etc etc) and they've historically happened often enough that we could very reasonably say we were due for another one like those.
Unless the next decade has a bunch more winters like this, operating assumption is that this is probably just another decadal fluke like 91-92 or 80-81.
Looks like a slow warm up..but 50s are just around the corner. Cant wait. I can certainly use some sunshine too. Feels like its been forever since I saw sunshine.
We were just in Tabernash CO a couple weeks ago seeing some friends who moved out there last summer. Bought the tickets in December thinking it would be a guaranteed winter wonderland experience since they average like 140 inches/year... lol.
Still beautiful, though! And at least I knocked seeing a moose (from a safe distance) off the bucket list. Certainly a very different vibe than when I was there in December of 2016.
