  1. Just puking snow here now. Massive flakes. The kind of aggregates that quickly overwhelm all surfaces. Sticking to everything but the roads pretty easily. 32.

  13. Just started snowing hard here. Still only 33 after a low of 31 so shouldn’t have much trouble sticking for at least the next hour or so. Had frost and some of the densest fog I’ve ever seen in March earlier. Pretty interesting weather set up.

  14. Starting to snow lightly here, looks like more coming. Another snow day for my grandson, it's the 6th or 7th not sure. The school district goes from 600' to Timberline so it's often hard for the district to know how to call it.

  16. Definitely a great winter here. Waking up to this on 2/23 after a blizzard overnight was wonderful.

  20. Finally got My station back up on the roof after spending the last year on the playset. Guess I could have painted that wood to not stand out so much….wife will probably call that out. Oh well

  21. Similar to current pattern into mid-April, then a NE-Pacific ridge tendency mid/late April into May, which could set up close to the west coast and would be drier and warmer relative to climo (though would expect some ULL activity in the SW US with that pattern). However, the reduced 4CH influence should become increasingly apparent as we head into the summer months, and below climo 500mb heights in the SW may expand to much of the interior West (reduced seasonality w/ respect to mean 4CH development). In summary, suspect the outcome will be lot closer to 2019 or possibly 1997, mild but relatively moist. If +ENSO development stutters mid/late summer, the closest recent analog would be 2012, but so far haven’t seen much in common with that year.

  22. Best stickage of the day here now. Not what I expected for almost 11am. Solid 1/4” out there and still coming down.

  23. Snowing at 1k in the Sierra currently. Total whiteout up here and should get about 8" today. Snow levels go from 1k today to 7.5k tomorrow evening. Forecast is for 6" of rain at lake level by Monday after we have had 270 of snow. Gonna get really messy. Above 8k 3-7' of Sierra Cement will fall on top of the 10-15' of dry snow that just fell. Could be some giant avalanches

  27. Snow developing again this morning. Pretty much the 5th day of this exact pattern. Last night had some nice clearing though and actually managed to get pretty cold. We hit 25 around 3am, but now we have light snow and 29. I see Salem is reporting light snow and 33.

  28. Absolutely shithousery from Des Moines on the discussion. Don't even want to post it, but they should be ashamed of their lack of interest/details/analysis. More than half the posters here could post something way better than that discussion. I hope they read this, and respond. What a joke. For a so called detailed discussion, it lacked both details and discussion. Another government job where they get no reprimand for absolute bare minimum done. Rant over. Hope Des Moines gets pounded all weekend long, not for my love of snow, but for them to feel ashamed for their lack of details. They did update the grids this AM. For RAIN. And Rain only. The grass is white and has been snowing for hours. Okay, now rant over!

  29. Really chilly day here. 43/31 spread with 1/4” of morning snow. Great convective looking sky in the afternoon. Did a nearby hike up Green Mountain north of Camas (800’) for the sunset.

  32. It stands at 63.7". If we can make it to 75", I will have to move this winter ahead of 2016-17 as the best since I have lived here... That winter had some really satisfying heart of the winter action, but this winter had our coldest November since I've been here, snowiest November, 2nd coldest February, 2nd snowiest February, already closing in on 2nd snowiest March... It's just been a great run. Our mean temp through the first 8 days of March has been 32.8, obviously that will go up significantly by the end of the month, but we have a great shot at a sub-40 March mean, which has only been done 12 times since 1938, and if we have something below 39 for the month then we are in top 5 territory. Still a long way to go.

  33. 1945 was the start of the PDO flip but despite a troughier pattern compared to the previous couple years, 1945-46 was more of an interior Western winter that was pretty mediocre for WA/OR. 1946-47 was a pretty good winter for most of the West and had fairly regional snow events in the PNW in mid November, mid January, and the end of January. Really good winter from Olympia-north. Also a big winter in the SW and southern Plains. 1947-48 was a NE-centric winter for the first half and then flipped to very troughy (not too snowy though) in the PNW in the 2nd half of the winter and that spring, which really marked the turn into the deep -PDO phase that dominated the next decade. The cold/wet spring in 1948 also really contributed to the massive snowmelt floods on the Columbia and Fraser Rivers in late May.

  34. That was a dynamic early spring. It snowed a bit in late March on the 25th-26th, followed by the tornado outbreak on April 5, followed by more lowland snow in mid April on the 12th and 16th-17th.

  35. It may come as a shock to everyone, and will probably be thrown back in my face at some point, but I’m gonna go ahead and say it. I’m looking forward to the first sunny day in the 60s. Although I’m definitely not sweating it too much, since I’m sure there will come a time where we once again get way more warmth than we bargained for at some point this year.
