  1. Woke up to 2-3” on the ground, decent shower right now.

  2. Spent most of the day in the Coast Range between 1000-1500 ft. I never quite get used to how drastically different the microclimates in our region can be. Completely different world today once you get to even about 700 ft there. Absolute winter wonderland with on and off snow all day and awesome orographic enhancement of these showers. I've grown pretty tired of the ultra marginal climate down at the lowest elevations and now days I just drive up a bit in elevation to find more interesting weather. Next time I move I'm really going to try to get up to at least 500 ft if not 1000 ft+. The Coast Range or SW WA Cascade foothills still at the top of my list I think.

  3. My wife passed in 2016. I just have a girlfriend, but we've been together for 6 years. She loves the snow too.

  4. Snow depth is about 13", picked up close to 5" last night which puts our season total up to 67". Have a couple of deer at my property today, a doe and a fawn. 24 degrees currently low of 21.

  6. The lack of snow sucks, but I think the F grades in our climate really should be reserved for the worst of the worst. A week of bitter cold and at least a handful of snow opportunities already makes this winter (and last) infinitely better than the 2002-03 types. The grading distribution would skew pretty heavily towards D/F in this climate otherwise. Our winters are capable of being really, really bad.

  7. Winds last night were terrifying but we survived. My truck was clear at midnight so this is 9 hours worth. still snowing hard with hopefully another foot or more today. Storm total around 28" right now.

  8. Can’t even find a ruler! But it is definitely 1” at my home. Streets are covered but it’s clearing out so it will melt soon. Trees are looking all pretty with the snow.

  10. My son was at Snoqualmie Summit today and said conditions were awesome. He also said he rescued an 8 year old boy who had accidentally skied out of bounds and went into a deep hole with a creek running underneath. He said everyone was freaking out and screaming and waiting for ski patrol to rescue the kid but jumped into action because he thought it might get worse before the ski patrol arrived. I guess the kid's parents were so thankful.

  11. We definitely got more than just 1” but we have big trees around my home so it prevents to really measure correctly. We took a little drive around the neighborhood. It’s definitely icy out there.

  18. For Western Washington at 1k feet I doubt you can beat lake cushman for snow and be close to a major town. Shelton only takes 25 to 30 minutes. I lived up there in 2012 and had over 100 inches of snow, had snow on the ground December to mid March, max depth was 44 inches. Biggest storm was 38 inches. The area Is a snow magnet.

  22. My dad sent me this from Oregon City off of Beavercreek. Nice to see OC getting a little action. Been a tough stretch for that area lately, even tougher than—dare I say— SPRINGFIELD/EUGENE (apparently Dante’s forgotten circle). 36 currently and no real sign of snow this morning at my location in Gladstone. Nevertheless, a great late winter event and so happy for the replenished snow pack.

  23. What a difference 120 feet makes! You can see it on the ridge across from me with a sharp cutoff above which the snow is much heavier.

  30. I've been thinking about all the talk about how terrible certain people's locations are for snow/cold, etc... At the end of the day, nowhere west of the Cascades and south of Seattle is going to be that great for winter weather below 500-1000'. It seems like you can do pretty well in the Hood Canal area below 500, and places out toward North Bend or Bellevue below 1000' seem to do really well, at least judging from posters on here. South of Portland you really have to be above 1000' to get much snow. Places between 500-1000' can do really well with events like December 2021, but for a lot of these cold onshore flow type of events you really have to get up above 1000' to score much when the valley is seeing cold rain. Part of the reason I moved up here was because I wanted to live somewhere with more snow, but I also wanted to be near the state park, and in a more remote area. You give up a lot living this far out though. The weather can be a pain in the a** in a way it rarely is down on the valley floor. I would guess 90% of the snow that falls here accumulates with temps at 30 or higher. It's almost always complete slop. Mossman definitely gets more high quality snow than we do here. Anyway, in short I like the climate where I live, there are some things I would change about it, but it's probably as good as I can do if I'm going to be living in W. Oregon. The folks who complain a lot probably don't have it comparatively as bad as they think they do... If you are experiencing genuine unhappiness because it doesn't snow enough, you probably have much bigger problems.

  42. Interesting the difference around the town. The airport it's located in the north side of town got almost half an inch. I live more south of Medford going towards Ashland got 1" and someone that leaves not far from me got 2".
