Never said it was irrelevant. Maybe you should read it again? Just said it wasn't necessary. Some people here, who perhaps had not heard of a SSW event until recently, may be under the impression that is almost impossible to score in the lowlands without one. And that's not true But it obviously can be a game changer. February 2019 is the classic example. One of the closest and snowiest Februaries ever, and it happened in a Nino year where February is usually the warmest and driest month of the whole winter relative to average. And BTW I am not at altitude. Many of my friends and family from out of the area are surprised at how low my elevation really is. Many other, less snowy areas East of the Cascades are at higher elevations. Cold Air Damming and being in an area with higher precipitation than most of the areas East of the mountains is what gives us so much snow.

That's been the story of the last few winters whenever there's been ridging. There really haven't been any decent inversion patterns, something has gotten in the way every time.
