My kids chose Gremlins for movie night tonight. Been probably 20+ yrs since I last saw it. Phoebe Cates nearly ruined christmas for my kids as she relived how her dad died dressed as Santa. Also, that movie was rated PG. How in the hell is that the rating? The 80s let so many movies get away with a PG rating.

All weather patterns are spatiotemporally state-dependent. It doesn’t mean you need a SSWE for arctic air in any location. But there are certain ocean-atmosphere regimes that deliver arctic air preferably to certain regions when zonal momentum/PV is stronger, and vice versa. It depends on the pattern/forcing regime, time of year, in-situ state, etc. Never is it a linear/bidirectional issue. I know it’s difficult to process mentally, but if it wasn’t then predicting weather/climate would be relatively easy. And we know that it is not easy.
