Basically we need the ridge axis to move closer to the 150-155W. The Aleutian ridge at something like 170 or 175W is not ideal. Here is what 2021 looked like prior to the blast. I think the Greenland blocking in 2021 was probably helping too.

The biggest story is the record warm mins. MSU recorded a daily min of 51 yesterday, which is tied for the all time record for Dec (the last record was 2021). Similar story here and elsewhere in MT... smashing December records for warm minimums.
