CPC, EPS, JMA are all on board for a sustained cold period coming for most on here and a wetter signal which should translate into a snowier pattern ahead. Prob the best signal of the winter season that can help snow enthusiasts on here who have been missed and love seeing snow on snow or at the very least, snow that sticks around for more than a couple days! First, the JMA... Week 2... Temp/Precip... Week 3-4...Big signal for a west based -NAO and some high lat blocking. Temp/Precip... CPC... Finally, the EPS has not really budged and presses the colder air enough far south to include some of our S MW members...

We got a Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow. Calling for totals generally less than an inch with isolated spots up to 2". It's looking very streaky so there could be large disparities of snow totals over short distances. It's a little odd they issued a WAA for those amounts but I think it's moreso the snow paired with strong 45-50mph gusts. Not all that excited as many models show next to nothing but maybe we will get lucky and a band will setup right over us. At least there's a chance!

You always see a fairly healthy range of outcomes in the ensemble charts. But when you have decent sized clusters that diverge by 25+ degrees at 7 days, I think that's a fair indication that models are struggling with this pattern progression. That could be good or bad for us, but I think we can largely dismiss anyone who says the models are clearly showing a return to more of the same. I could be misremembering but I feel like there was similar model ambiguity during last January's monster ridge, and that one did eventually give way to a favorable blocking pattern for end of january and first third of february. I don't recall models nailing that very early.
