I've seen some entertaining videos from that location. Apparently, it doesn't get super cold there very often, so much of the snow falls at 28-32 degrees. They actually dump the snow right into the storm drains, which pretty much never freeze solid.

Some models get some snow up there and get the lake involved. Hopefully there's more clarity on it tomorrow. Personally I think the Canadian will be the closest as to where the heaviest snow will fall and that should bode well for Chicago.

The town of Yuzawa, Japan averages 400 to 500 inches per year. You can get to it from Tokyo in like an hour by train. Dunno the stats for the surrounding mountains.

Yeah I mean you have to measure snowfall to break a record and most of that region in S-America has no data at all. But the westerlies are substantially stronger and more consistent down there compared to the NH with substantially less summer warming/seasonality, that Antarctic polar vortex is much stronger and more resilient year round compared to the Arctic. So you’d have to think the true world record is somewhere in the southern Andes.
