Marine layer is present again inland this morning, although not as dense as yesterday morning.

Low clouds burned off much earlier today, but there's also some higher clouds at times.

There has been a sudden invasion of thick mid-level clouds.

The end of a humungous non marine layer cloud has come through and the sun is coming out again. Very strange day.

Low clouds have quickly made a return after a day dominated by mostly mid and high clouds, including the thick mid-level cloud that passed through from 1:30 to 3:30 today. Temperatures were up to 73 before it came through, dropped as low as 64, and then went back up to 73 after it passed. Apparently lots of the clouds had some kind of mist or virga coming out of them as well.

Showers moving NNE over the ocean, but it is unlikely they will hold together before they reach the coast.

Light rain has started to fall here. More than just a drizzle. Also the dogs are barking next door because their idiotic owners leave them out at night, despite the fact that we have coyotes here

I had taken Benadryl for my severe allergies this morning and it knocked me out, so unfortunately I was not awake in the afternoon to witness it. I re-awoke in the evening just before the sun went down.

 

But looking through my temperature records for the day, my weather station did record an anomaly in the early afternoon consistent with what you described:

Las Vegas now down to 57 F with heavy rain from thunderstorms. They have picked up 0.29" so far. Spring is the season where the weather cannot make up its mind whether it should be summer or winter.

Marine layer reached a depth of about 8000 ft. Upper low moves out tonight but no noticable changes in our weather for tomorrow.

Laguna Beach was the warmest place west of the mountains reaching 72. Meanwhile, temperatures inland took a nosedive from yesterday. That's what reverse clearing does,

Drizzle this morning wetting the ground. For today it's just a crappy (beautiful for some) April day. Tomorrow morning it's officially May Gray.

It was short-lived but heavy in those few minutes. I was out doing yardwork when it started. It has since turned to light sprinkles.

 

Only 0.04" since midnight here, though.

Something I have always wondered. How many consecutive colder-than-the-winter-average gray/gloom days are needed to make the leaves turn color and get ready to fall.

Rhyme word for stubborn marine layer in April ... that's a challenging one, but probably wasteful April as it usually does not bring much significant rain, therefore being wasteful, and it's also a waste of spring daylight hours, which are about the same as mid August now.

Low clouds have once again scattered out towards sunset, just like yesterday and it remains partly cloudy for now, at least. Question is whether or not it will be a 5000 ft thick cloud layer leaking out light rain and drizzle by the morning. Last 2 days, Lake Forest got 0.07" each day, but their station is up at the base of the Santa Ana Mountains. I'm guessing not as much rain tomorrow morning, especially if the marine layer depth starts to drop overnight.

This marine layer weather sucks, I wish we were having the monsoonal moisture streaming over California and it being warm too.

At least the marine layer is much more shallower today with the typical low clouds and the sun is already out.

Last May was excessively gray. We'll see what's in store for this year.

 

Still need a few consecutive days of warm/hot weather near the coast to get the jacarandas to bloom here. They probably are already in bloom further inland.

Just about average today for Fullerton, but most places were still slightly below.

NOAA website has been slow and buggy the last 2 days. Cannot even get today's climate reports.

 

One year ago today we had some record low maximums. Fullerton was only 62 F for the high and it was so cold that late afternoon that I played "Baby it's cold outside" on my phone while walking my dog with my full winter jacket, which I hadn't used in weeks. My dog also had her sweater on.
