Currently light snow and temp is @ 28F. Everything is white. Looks more of a dusting and approaching half an inch. Man, its been awhile since I saw the white stuff and it sure looks great seeing it OTG and also falling from the sky.

You think the models may be having some trouble in the longer term???  10mb warming spiking like I've never seen before...

FWIW, GEFS are hinting at another major burst around the 6th/7th of Feb...

Pushing towards Europe again I see thus why it's gotten super cold there and not over our side. Helps somewhat though, correct?

Wrong, it was super cold but now it is warming up big time due to strong westerlies. For N.A., the flow is northerly and it has filled up with Siberian airmass.

The GL's glory years 40th anniversary of back-to-back years of unprecedented wicked winter storms. With two mega-storms so close together, pictures on the web have overlapped and some in here are actually from Michigan in Jan of '78 like the one of the guy and his dog on the roof. Ever again???

Almost forgot, that Rupp snowmobile is just like one my buddy had when we were in grade school. His folks had a wide-track vs which I bought and refurbished some years later when I was 17...My 1st sled and I had it up north and rode it for 15 yrs. Sold it when I moved south

We need something like that. I like the way the video started off with the words..... :D True Blizzard indeed.

GRR updated their AFD about 9:30 to say that they needed to increase snowfall for Sunday Eve & night to at least 2-4" and mentioned a possible I-94 convergence band which would be awesome!

I can see a 4-6inch range somewhere within that vicinity. All depends where that band forms.

Just a trace of snow  IMBY however I was downtown last night and there is around a half inch there there is more snow to the south of me than here.  Grand Rapids is now at 8.5" for January and 46.3" for this winter season so thanks to the 37" we receive in December we are are believe it or not just about average for the season at this point. Also of note is that GRR is +5.1° for January and there now has been 15 days in a row of above average temperatures and just 7 days this month have stayed below 32°

I am hoping with todays LES bands and tomorrows clipper system, I can top off near average snowfall for January, if not, a bit above normal. Lets see what happens. So far for the month I received 4.8".

@Jaster,

You must be getting some light to moderate snow now per radar standards. Any accumulations so far?

Btw: my area is looking at 3-6inches with tomorrows clipper. Sweet! :)

M1.0 here at 11 am. Puts me above avg snowfall on the season. I may be the lucky one on here who can say that.

Looking more like winter for sure and now IWX pops as WSWatch for my work place overnight! ☺☺

Had a quick burst of snow here and the road, grass and roofs are covered with 2" of new snow.

Lucky! The only action I got today was at the gym when I looked outside and thought to myself, "is that fog?" Def not, it was snowing so hard I couldn't see across the parking lot! It didn't last long. Maybe 5 min.

Speaking of insane rates, was driving to Kzoo this eve and hit a wall of white crossing BC. Vis was down to ~300 ft. Estimate it was 4"/hr stuff. Dropped a solid 2+ in maybe 30 or 40 mins. Broke out of it near Augusta and there was less further west. You know it's a strange year when The Creek has more than The Zoo

Measured 2.3" in mby in the last 24 hrs. Has a solid winter look/feel in the 'hood this evening. Roads are snow covered but not too slippery

Gosh, does it feel good to see the sun shining on this Monday!  Might get lucky enough to get some light snow later tonight from the clipper.

Amazing temp reversal at 10mb...you think models having problems???  Looks like it shot out of a cannon.

So, the far SWMI corner here at work got smacked with a very plow-worthy 4-10" event. I noticed IWX had issued a WSWatch but went WWA, It ended up very Warning worthy for at least a few counties. No doubt they were talked down by GRR. Almost guarantee that's the case. (Granted, IWX being burned at least twice by the warm waters earlier in the season, surely didn't help their confidence level any)

Good Luck over there Niko with the Clipper. IWX's map showing Marshall as a solid 3-4" snowfall. Would be nice to get something plow-worthy for mby. Need some piles to really look & feel like January! I might even hit dbl digits for the month after all. Strange month. Strange, strange month..

The skies cleared out last night for a while here and with around 2” of new snow on the ground the temperature fell to 12° here at my house (16° at the airport) of course the clouds rolled in before daybreak so still no sun on our side of the lake. When was the last time we have seen the sun here in Grand Rapids??? I can not remember that far back.

You went on vacation and surely found the the sun, lol

Seriously though, a week ago Saturday (21st) was wall-to-wall sunny and 60º, doesn't get much better for January in MI. Besides, we burnt through two years allotment of sunny days during our warm season Jim. ;)

Here at my house I got 2" of new snow but on the south side of GR there was much less not more than a heavy trace. While the grass is covered here at my sons house the grass is still showing and that is about 6 miles south of me. So not sure how wide spread the heavier vs lighter snow was last night.

Still waiting for these long range maps to pan out that would at least benefit this sub-forum.

Yeah, you Chicago peeps are really in what I've dubbed the "Triangle of Dearth". Not getting any love at all, with storms running just north of you, cold then brings LES to us across the lake. Even the clipper is a graze teaser. Total suckage over there. Sorry for the cold comfort. Actually, I can't even offer that. Sheesh - it's gawd-awful for you guys!

I've been watching the GEFS ensembles over the past few days and they have been erratic.  It'll prob continue this week with the on going SSW.

Here at my house I received 3.5″ of new snow. I now have a total of 4.5" OTG. This is not lake effect snow so while it is not a real heavy snow it still is more packed than lake snows would be. I have a temperature here of 26°

I received 3.7". Just a little more than you. :P

Btw: we might be getting more snow in the pm hour.

JAn in DSM will go down over +5F above normal -- haven't had a below normal day since the 13th. A far cry from what  JB and others were saying-- 7-8F too cold.  2.5" of snow. 6" and change for the entire winter.......

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
