Guest happ
"Effect of reduced summer cloud shading on evaporative demand and wildfire in coastal southern California" https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1029/2018GL077319 "In much of coastal southern California, the frequency of summer clouds has declined rapidly in recent decades due to warming from urbanization and greenhouse gases. These reductions have significantly reduced cloud shading and increased evaporative demand, particularly in greater Los Angeles and northern San Diego, such that a relatively cloudy summer today is similar to a relatively clear summer in the 1970s. Clouds appear to be important regulators of summer wildfire activity in this region, as the shade they provide slows loss of moisture from vegetation. On the vegetated mountainsides that ring coastal southern California's large cities, increases in summer sunlight and evaporative demand have likely enhanced summer wildfire potential over the past several decades. This effect is expected to continue due to continued urban expansion and positive feedbacks, where warming due to cloud loss promotes further warming and cloud loss." https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/action/downloadSupplement?doi=10.1029%2F2018GL077319&attachmentId=2214802471
Anti Marine Layer
Clouds having a hard time making up their mind again this afternoon. For a while it looks like they will break up, then they begin to thicken up.
Anti Marine Layer
The clouds did go away for the most part, but for much of the afternoon they stayed thin enough to let some of the sun's warmth through, which kept temperatures in the low 70s. Anti Marine Layer
It's now 77F and the forecast high is 79F. It's likely going to be hotter than expected today. That all depends on when the sea breeze kicks in. However, it's definitely warmer than it has been in a while.
Anti Marine Layer
http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/contour/californ.cf.gif Looks like the ocean is warming up. Eddy and the turn in the coast near Santa Barbara tends to keep the Southern California Bight warmer than the rest of the coast.

Anti Marine Layer
The nice weather you have been waiting for has finally arrived!!Yep, but there were onshore winds that stirred up the fire, not the usual Santa Ana Winds, which would have probably got the fire to 25000 acres by now. Smoke is less visible for now, but you can still smell it.
