The Mediterranean designation is such a worthless catch all for such a diverse range of climates. It’s kind of a shame. Just look at the fir studded landscape of the Portland area compared to the dry chaparral of the LA foothills and tell me that’s the same climate zone.
Any troughing this year has been pretty well balanced out by warm periods. Just look at the year to date departures for many stations. Near to a little above average ytd is the rule, regionally.
I mean, I get it, it’s nice to have troughs moving through, period, opposed to the unbroken torching we’ve seen a lot of lately. But the steady diet of troughs since the beginning of the year has more or less just meant that this year has been a little more normal and harkens back to some of our pre-2012 climo.
I know playing every trough up to the max probably helps keep you sane, and you’ve been doing it for years, but in reality we haven’t seen anything too out of the ordinary on the cold side this year, outside of the mid-January blast.
Canada’s greatest contribution to the world is in my opinion the maple syrup. If you have never had 100% pure Grade A dark Canadian maple syrup you have not lived.
