Andie
I'm curious if anyone agrees or disagrees with the statement at the bottom. http://www.projectmidas.org January 8, 2017 Larsen C Ice Shelf, Antarctic Peninsula - The MIDAS Project — Impact of Melt on Ice Shelf Dynamics and Stability — is a UK-based Antarctic research project that has been investigating the effects of a warming climate on the Larsen C ice shelf. “Recent warming has caused large melt ponds to form on Larsen C during summer, which are changing the structure of the ice. The effects of this on the future of the ice shelf are still unknown.” On January 5, 2017, the MIDAS scientists reported that the Larsen C ice shelf on the Antarctic Peninsula “is primed to shed an area of more than 5000 square kilometers following further substantial rift growth. After a few months of steady, incremental advance since the last event, the rift grew suddenly by a further 18 km during the second half of December 2016. Only a final 20 km of ice now connects an iceberg one quarter the size of Wales to its parent ice shelf. The crack in Antarctica's Larsen C ice shelf has been growing in lengthby about 1,500 feet each day since December 2016. When the crack depicted in redabove reaches the other end of Larsen C, “The iceberg is likely to break free withinthe next few months,” says Prof. Adrian Luckman of Swansea Univ. in Wales, U. K., who is leading a research team called MIDAS Project. That will be oneof the biggest icebergs on record. Larsen C has been on the water, so it won'tcause sea level rise. But its collapse will open up a path for ice on land behindit to start moving toward the ocean. That will cause sea level rise. 1 Quote Before You Diagnose Yourself With Depression or Low Self-Esteem,...First Make Sure You Are Not In Fact, Just Surrounded By A$$holes. “If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell.” Gen. snow_wizard
They try to make it sound like this stuff is something new and is being caused by global warming. Even if they don't actually say that they want people to infer it. This is all just the normal activity of an active ice sheet. The interesting thing to note is Antarctica has seen no significant warming while there has been warming in other parts of the world. Quote Death To Warm Anomalies!
