Thunder98
Paso Robles had some dense fog from the marine layer this morning, and yet it still went up 101F today!

AquariusRadar
Hoping Nora rolls up the Baja and makes some rain for Southern California. Maybe?
Pn1ct0g3n
Nora likely recurves before any of the remnants get near us, but one can dream. No southerly component to the winds in almost a week, and the blue is starting to creep past Pt. Conception. But hey! We’ve still got blue skies here with no smoke or Fogust. Gotta be grateful for that.

Pn1ct0g3n
Look at that! Monterey Bay fully cleared out for the first time in quite a while. Meanwhile, a patch of fog riding down from SB County is starting to arrive in the Santa Monica Bay. All but the most exposed coasts got some decent heat today. Manhattan Beach still struggles to climb above 75 no matter what the inland temperature.

Compared to last year it seems like there have been fewer 100+ days inland, but also far fewer days that fail to reach 70 at the coast. 2021 feels very middle of the road. AquariusRadar
The NASDAQ California Water index is quoted at USD $923 per acre foot; up 450% since fire season started and after several drought emergency declarations by the governor and county officials. Pn1ct0g3n
Dense fog tonight, the kind you often ironically see during a heatwave. Next few days will be more of the same: above average away from the immediate coast, but not enough to qualify as a “heatwave”.
Anti Marine Layer
The day starts out damp and misty, just like last Saturday. However, the thickest stuff is not in the Cajon Pass.

Pn1ct0g3n
Pea soup fog conditions here, aided and abetted by the upwelling event we’re having. It’s not nearly as bad as last year but look at how far the blue got in just a couple of days.
Pn1ct0g3n
A measly 67F here. It’s beginning to clear but struggling to get all the way to the coast. With high temps expected inland, it’s shaping up to be one of MML’s “pick and choose days” where you can pick any temperature you like in just a 10 mile drive from the beach. Thunder98
Currently 73F at KSMX, forecast high today was 80F. The marine layer inversion is very strong today. Definitely a very tame Summer this year on the Central Coast. Only 6 days so far above 80F and 1 day 90F+ in KSMX for Meteorological Summer. Last Summer I had 16 days above 80F and 3 days above 90F. Pn1ct0g3n
Went from 68F to 107F going from Manhattan Beach to Winnetka. One of the most extreme spreads I’ve seen.

Reg
It has been dubbed the Chaparral Fire, burning in the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness in the southern Santa Ana Mountains, just north of Margarita Peak and Camp Pendleton. I have hiked out near there before over the years. The area is very remote, with rugged terrain that is difficult to access, and the brush is very dense and looked like it hadn't burned in decades. Fire is 0% contained as of an hour ago, according to CalFire. Sky is filling with smoke here and gradually blocking out sunlight. I'll take another picture or two if it gets any smokier here. https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2021/8/28/chaparral-fire/
Pn1ct0g3n
Yikes. Perfect fire weather too. Hope they get on it fast. A Nora remnant miracle rainfall would help.

Pn1ct0g3n
All thoughts, prayers, hopes, good vibes, whatever you call them go out to Louisiana today. Ida could very well be Katrina 2.0. Back home: eddy didn’t last; NW winds are back. SSTs are down as much as 10F along most of the Bight’s coast. A moisture plume is headed our way but probably won’t do much. Nora would have to follow the far west of its cone for it to bring rain to the coast, but we shall see. August seems determined to go out as Fogust, as it did last year. 63F in Manhattan Beach this morning…that’s like May.
