February 2014 Observations and Discussion

Geos

ORD will probably get out of the single digits today.  Sitting at 9F.  Too much open ground with the snow melt has kept it warmer in urban areas.  This bitter blast def has some punch.  Probably the coldest night remaining of the season will be tonight.

Currently 7 degrees here and starting to drop fast. About 5 degrees warmer than the Dubuque airport, and other observations around me confirm that mine is accurate. This is why I'm glad I have this weather station now, will be nice to report my own stuff instead of the Dubuque airport's..

And has dropped down to -3 here in the last hour. Temps will moderate and rise a little in the early morning hours, but I am interested to see exactly how low they drop.

A easterly flow is supposed to develop here after 10pm tonight. So it may not bottom out much more here. Very cold right now though.

Too bad you didn't have the marine influence out by you!

I've noticed the temps have actually stopped falling and risen slightly. But according to the GFS, it's supposed to be like -30 right now, I'm confused!?? Lol. But the forecast is -14, I don't see that happening.

NAM hires shows winds blowing out of the SE lightly later on, so that should mix the air enough to prevent a -10° by you. - Unless you're in a protected valley.

Some of my town is in a valley, but I live on the top of a hill so my house isn't as much. Kind of funny, though, because right after I said the temps were rising, they started dropping again. Down to -4.

I'm sure a slight wind is playing with the temps.

The amount of frozen water pipes I've seen in the last three days has been pretty crazy. Never seen a frozen water main burst so late in the season before.

GREEN BAY HAS TIED THE RECORD WITH THE MOST SUBZERO TEMPERATURES

IN A WINTER WITH 47...WHICH WAS SET DURING THE WINTER OF 1976-77.

THE RECORD WILL BE BROKEN FRIDAY MORNING. AT WAUSAU...THERE HAVE

BEEN 51 DAYS...WHICH IS TIED FOR THIRD MOST SUBZERO DAYS IN A

HAVE BEEN 54 DAYS BELOW ZERO. THE RECORD IS 74 SET IN 1985-86.

THERE WILL BE AT LEAST 3 OR 4 MORE DAYS OF SUBZERO TEMPERATURES

AT ALL THREE SITES...AND POSSIBLY MORE ACROSS THE NORTH.

SINCE RECORDS AT GREEN BAY BEGAN IN 1886 AND WAUSAU IN 1895. AT

GREEN BAY...IT WILL BE THE COLDEST WINTER SINCE THE FRIGID WINTER

OF 1976-77. THE WINTERS OF THE LATE 70S WERE PRETTY BRUTAL ACROSS

NORTH-CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST WISCONSIN.

FINAL STATISTICS FOR FEBRUARY 2014 AND THE 2013-14 WINTER
