SilverFallsAndrew
Maybe the winter of 2011-12 was more of an outlier than I realized at the time. But the last two winters up here have been just pathetic in terms of snow in comparison. The lowest temp that winter was 22 though, so I kind of downgraded it based on that. After going through the past two winters however I would say that I would take plentiful snow over a bunch of meaningless cold lows. Jesse
For my location it hasn't been that great of a winter. Due to the cold maybe a B-. Winter isn't over for you until March 31st. Still time for it to rise to an A.

Cold temperatures are no more meaningless than any other kind of temperature. Cold is a pretty essential part of winter feeling like winter. I like a balance. A completely dry winter loaded with cold temperatures would be disappointing; but a wet, mild winter with lots of sloppy, quick melting snow at a couple points would be even worse, IMO. Somewhere in the middle is best. Which is basically what this winter has been out here.

Abbotsford_wx
I would give this winter a tentative D up here. We normally average 20-25" of snow and we've had less than 6" this winter. The only reason it's not an F is because we did manage two arctic outbreaks, though neither was that cold and there was no snow on the ground either time. I could still bump it to a C- or even a C if we get some snow in the next week, or if we luck out in March. There's no disputing that this was a great winter south of Olympia, though. The only thing preventing an F right now is 6 sub freezing highs, which is probably a pretty average amount. I still think I have a shot at building on my snow totals a bit this week, although it wont be snow of any quality.

TheBigOne
LOTS of jobs for entry-level mets coming up with NWS beginning a hiring binge shortly (to fill spots vacated by attrition last several years). Anticipated couple hundred openings with openings at most offices. Also ATC (Air Traffic Control) has issued a rare call for general public applicants (must be under age 31) which is another great career path for meteorologists. It's actually looking like a decent job market for degreed mets for the next couple years.
TheBigOne
This forum is funnyEspecially when certain members I won't name resorts to wish casting or fantasy casts to make storms bigger then they are which I can understand as our weather most of the time is boring. The PNW is as depressing as New Foundland Canada which is second to the foggiest and gloomiest area of North America. I think parts of the PNW should be annexed into British Columbia as certain areas of Washington resemble it so much.
