Speaking of seeing America, I visited the ghost town of Picher, OK on the back end of my eclipse trip. Really fascinating story there, with the lead/zinc mining deposits there creating an environmental catastrophe, and then sadly a devastating EF-4 tornado in 2008 pretty much finished them off. You can still see the giant chat piles from the road hanging over most of the former building sites.10 points

Today's our wedding anniversary and it's shaping up to be a nice day. A few high clouds but sunny. My wife is taking her driving test today. She had to take the written also.5 points

No they are probably still hibernating. There was about 8’ of snow on the ground at the overlook. It’s about 10,450’.4 points

Klamath Falls is going to have a very interesting Saturday night. Bands of thundersnow out of the northeast. Can't say that's a common weather occurence in the PNW.3 points

Was going to go up there this same week last year but the road was actually still closed due to 2022-23's snow-e-ness.3 points

Yep, I could go for some of that. Nice morning here so far. 50 and hazy, filmy clouds. Was gusty earlier but it's calmed down.3 points

2022 was the most messed up year I have experienced here. Trees started leafing out in early April and then were stunted by all the cold weather... and then summer went on forever... and then we went right into winter at the end of October. We basically skipped spring and fall. The trees kept their leaves into December here even when it was snowing because they were trying to make up for the unusually cold spring.3 points

A little early for the dry season to be starting. If I were in SE King County, I'd be getting pretty nervous about the prospects for a really wet Memorial Day to 4th of July stretch.3 points

And if we all wake up tomorrow you will still be a doosh bag, nothing but mockery and back handed comments from you as of late, but yet of course, you don't do those things at all...... hmmmmm......2 points

Work? Are you no longer living my retirement dream? I don’t recall signing off.2 points

To be fair, California absolutely needed these last couple years. They were in a really bad way as recently as Fall 2021.2 points

Glad you got to see it! I was lucky as well at my viewing spot in Clifton/Valley mills area. The morning was completely socked in with thick clouds and we were expecting to not see anything. As the morning went on the clouds quickly began to burn off and break up. About a 1/2 hour from totality a large clearing took place and passed over us during the entirety of totality, we had zero clouds! It was incredible! The prominences were much more pronounced this time vs. 2017. Other neat occurrences were nearby roosters crowing, crickets, noticeable drop in temp, and even a barred owl started to hoot shortly after totality. The reactions from the first-timers is always special too Great trip! And the ranch we stayed at was absolutely spectacular, but that’s a different story. We are considering Egypt for the 2027 eclipse2 points

The only thing that has sucked about this trip is my wife’s work coverage fell through so we have to come back Saturday.2 points

I’m not that upset, this happens annually. Plus between OJ passing away yesterday and now the Golden Bachelor getting divorced I have other things on my mind!2 points

Deck is wet here too... had a little rain overnight but its already clearing up with blue sky overhead.2 points

Looks like some bonafide Spring weather heading for Chitown this weekend into next week...I see a string of 70's??? Although, that pesky "Pneumonia Front" is lurking for Sunday afternoon...I dreaded those Spring days where its soo nice outside for the 1st half of the day and in a matter of an hour you have to put your jacket on! In the summer, however, it's a great reprieve from the humidity and HEAT. Happy Friday Folks! Oh ya, PHX hit 94F late in the afternoon...last year's 99F record was close...hope that it ain't a repeat summer this year. My gut feeling is that the SW ridge will be close but not right overhead and more or less east into NM and W TX. "Ring of Fire" pattern is gonna be a HOT HOT Theme in the summer months ahead.2 points

The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 56/46 there was 0.61” of rainfall (here in MBY I recorded 0.42”) The average windspeed was 11.4 MPH and the peak gust was 26 MPH out of the NW. There was no sunshine. For today the average H/L is 56/36 the record high of 82 was set in 1977 and the record low of 19 was set in 1939 and 1950. The most rainfall of 1.12” fell in 2019the most snowfall of 1.2” fell in 1989. The most on the ground was 3” in 2007. Last year the H/L was 77/59.2 points

We had a chance of showers yesterday, but I wasn't really expecting anything more than a few hundredths at most. But some on and off showers traversed my area starting by 3:00 p.m. with brief downpours and barely pea-sized hail multiple times. Even heard some thunder a few times. Ended up getting 0.32" while my sister's place 2/3rd mile ne. got nearly a half inch as did another sister 7-8 miles se. I was going to plant some garden, but plans changed. A plenty chilly rain anyway. You're probably wondering why I mention siblings living here and there, and jfyi, I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters. And one brother's winter home may be @Tom's neighbor!? Not sure what his exact address is, though it's in Fountain Hills.2 points

A little but they were so thin they actually served as a filter!2 points

I imagine the abnormally dry in far Eastern CA gets most of their rains with the monsoons?1 point

Another pattern too I've noticed is usually when the increasing dynamics "start" around these counties I can get shafted in those. When Louisville/Lexington are in the thick and also includes me, I score the better ones. I need already matured and organized convection reaching those points before they get to Boyd County. Still, probably shouldn't be bummed at not getting a thunder, I've had quite a high number of them for this time of year. If they continue on a weekly basis this summer, I might get to 60 of them for 20241 point

I ended up in Clarksville AR. I went the day of but massive traffic getting out there meant I couldn't go quite as far east as I wanted and the partial was well underway when I got to the park I stopped at. With that said, there were just a few high clouds and overall it was a great viewing experience. It definitely got darker during the eclipse than 2017 since I was a little more under the totality path. I was able to see two prominences, the diamond ring effect on both sides, and the mesmerizing corona. I think the corona looked even better than last time and few pictures can capture how amazing it actually looked. The one in 2045 goes right over my house so if I am still here that will be fun.1 point

We get those here on the north end of the city. Used to confuse the hell out of me as a kid. I can reliably count on some lee action if we're in the Olympic rain shadow during an AR event. Especially if vertical wind shear is low and the whole column descends efficiently. On days like that it can be pissing buckets of rain in Tacoma under dark skies with no wind, while up here it's dry and mild under filtered sunshine, with roaring westerly gusts around 40-50mph. Excellent walking days, very active and pleasant!1 point

Back in our club soccer days we were at a tournament in Burlington. One of the mornings started with a wind driven heavy drizzle that soaked everyone. Must be the long fetch down the strait there that makes it a thing.1 point

Answered this elsewhere, but not really. We had high thin clouds and they worked as a filter. I could actually see well for about 20 seconds without the glasses. But I didn’t take chances. They went back on fast. I could see the corona flares which were the highlight for me.1 point

Nice and somewhat boring weather ahead this week around here with all the thunderstorm action in the south. However great viewing for the eclipse this afternoon, I get about 93% coverage.1 point

I went with yes. In looking at the past snow fall amounts I was surprised of the number of winters seasons when Chicago had more snow than Minneapolis. I went with 5.1 to 10.0 Inches more. I had a chance of moving to the Minneapolis area when I was still working my real job. But I turned it down as my wife felt that it would be too dry and cold in Minneapolis.1 point

You covered one of the great highlights of Oklahoma winter weather and it not usually in the totals. It's in the extreme ways our weather usually starts or how you can wake up here one morning with the sun shining in January at 60°F then 12 hours later, it's 14 degrees and snowing sideways with a -2°F wind-chill over a layer cake of precip modes resembling an ice sheet. Also, the lightning in a sleet storm is a different and beautiful color. It makes your heart race a bit. It's beautiful and severe all at one time. So yeah, a lot of my favorite snows or storms didn't set records in any way, it was HOW that 4 inches of winter precip got there that is wild.1 point
