Today the morning is 52 seconds shorter than yesterday and the afternoon is 59 seconds shorter. Around the fall equinox, we were losing about 41 seconds each morning and 83 seconds each afternoon.

Del Amo Mall already has Xmas decorations up. I was there yesterday. 84 in Torrance that day.

Already significantly cooler today as the onshore flow returns.

They must be in the Hallmark holiday spirit.

California is known for many things, but spectacular fall color is not among them. 

For some reason our deciduous trees mostly go from green to brown and gradually drop their leaves over months. The liquidambars with their red and purples are an exception but those are east coast natives.

Some coasts (mine included) still saw the low 80s.

The Santa Ana Fog has just arrived in the South Bay. Tomorrow should be back into the 60s.

Sun came out here, still hazy. The switch flipped back to onshore in the space of an hour last night.

Somehow I’ve managed to dodge it. Halloween night conditions look very typical. Many memories of getting overheated in those heavy costumes and having to remove a layer despite it being in the low 60s.

I don’t mind having cloudy days of any type during the autumn and winter, unlike Summer and Spring where I really hate the stratus.

While the marine layer is more intermittent in the fall and winter as a rule it can still thicken and move ashore when a trough passes by. We’re seeing that now.

Low clouds are pushing in in a June-like fashion, except that the sunset is 2 hours earlier.

A lot of the trees here has been changing color in the last 3 weeks
