April 8th/9th Snow Storm

On my way back from the gym, I could tell from the clouds that the snow that is flying is definitely of the lake effect variety.  Light lake effect snow showers still effecting parts of NE IL.  Something I certainly won't forget.

One of my friends lives near Ukraine village and he has 4" OTG from an intense weenie band that sat over the I-290 corridor.  Who woulda thought we would see Lehs in Chicago on April 9th?

Some local totals...

:) We love Ann's Bakery in the UV! Always go there for lunch when we hit Chicago, and then take a bunch of stuff back home. Just wish it wasn't such a long drive (or my trunk was refrigerated). The summer heat kinda limits taking much prepared food  :(

Pretty solid April snowstorm for Iowa.

There was plenty of model disagreement and flopping around with the placement of the best band of snow as it spread southeast across Iowa.  While the strength of the system waned, the placement was pretty darn good for the CR/IC area.  Every good snowfall this winter had a nw to se track.

North Central Iowa has been bullseyed by the last two big snow events.  Combined, the two events dropped up to 2 feet of snow around Mason City.

season snowfall: 34.8"

'22-23: 30.2"      '21-22: 27.1"      '20-21: 52.5"      '19-20: 36.2"      '18-19: 50.2"      '17-18: 39.5"

Average snowfall: ~30"

The transient April sun has absolutely decimated the 3.3" of snowfall I received from this event. It's now down to shallow patches in shaded areas.

2021-22 Snowfall: (Hiawatha)

TOTAL: 10.2"

(12/28: 3.0") (12/29: 0.8")

(1/1: 6.4")

This system also brings my total to 40.0" flat for the season. Combined with the event a week ago(forgot the day that left about a 1/2" of accumulation on grassy surfaces) If this winter could stop any time now, that'd be great.

Just heard it snowed for 17 hours straight at ORD from this system.  That's pretty remarkable given the time of year.

Sure is! In Marshall the snow began at 4 am and finished at 10 pm. An 18 hr period, tho there were occasional breaks in the action. Another heavy cell swept thru about 8:15 pm dropping another inch taking my total for the day to 2.5". With the snow melting on my warm car, then temps plummeting well down into the 20's, I had the nastiest ice and snow removal ever for an April day. #READYFORSPRING!

Edit: shoulda looked closer - KRMY hit 17F this morning, even colder than I thought. It felt better tho due to dead calm conditions.
