MossMan
Gorgeous day. Pictured below is the Anacortes to Friday Harbor ferry passing in front of Shaw Island from a beach on Lopez Island. Probably 30 miles west of Randy's house as the crow flies. Indeed! (Pic not taken today, wall to wall sun here currently) Quote Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth! Jesse
Looks like PDX predictably bumped to 84. Pretty conceivable they make it through the next few days with no sub-80 highs before the furnace starts ramping up again Saturday.
Jesse
Was it you who said 75F average this month at PDX? Maybe it was a bit tongue in cheek but it might actually be a good call at this point.Missed this earlier. As far as all Portland area stations, dowtown had a 75.0 degree average in August 1967. With its current level of UHI it’s likely PDX would have been pretty close too. PDX’s official high water mark is 74.1 in July ‘85. I would say right now it’s a better than bad chance they eclipse that by at least a few tenths of a degree this month. If they keep up the trend of common sense defying warm lows and overachieving highs somehing 75-ish is probably in reach, IMO.

Frontal Snowsquall
That fire over by the Dalles looks interesting. HmmmmUnfortunately it claimed a victim. "THE DALLES, OR (KPTV) - A person was found dead by a burned tractor in the area of the Substation Fire near The Dalles. Wasco County deputies were alerted to the situation at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies said it appears the tractor operator died as a result of exposure to the fire. The victim’s name was not immediately released. Investigators believe the tractor operator was trying to create a fire line in an effort to help suppress the Substation Fire." http://kptv.images.worldnow.com/images/17224456_G.jpg http://www.kptv.com/story/38676864/person-found-dead-by-burned-tractor-in-area-of-substation-fire-near-the-dalles

The dieback from heat and drought in the west has been pretty well documented, though. I really do hope we don’t end up having a situation with 55-60% mortality like parts of California.
