July 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Recommended Posts

Glad they got out of there safe. It seems like there's a new wildfire that starts everyday now. Looks like a new wildfire just started down here in The Dalles. They have a Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation is place now, people have been evacuated. Hopefully they can get it under control.

Cool pics, but what's so scary about that? Pretty minimal danger to anyone in their cars from a small grass fire like that.

Unable to post the video but to witness your first fire and have your child in the car got her adrenaline rollin!!! I heard my grandson in the video say...this is my first wildfire ...lol...he is 6.

When I went through that area earlier their was a guy cutting the grass along the roadside. I winder if he sparked the fire? Anyhow, adrenaline rolls when you witness someth8ng like that so close.

Chilly evening...already down to 66. Last evening it was still 76 at this time. Phil must be trending west.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Wow, 63* already! Phil is dialing in his environment preferences

Still around 70 here... but its coming.

GFS MOS shows a bone chilling 73 at SEA on Thursday.   Ridiculous!

DCA picked up 2.79 inches of rain today... a daily record.

Phil said it would not rain for weeks.

And now it will be downright chilly when he is sitting outside smoking cigars on Thursday night with his relatives.    Right in between two impressive heat waves.   Everything is coming together for Phil!

The valley should be full by morning.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

The 00z GFS brings a "Super" Heatwave(3 straight 100+ days) to PDX next Monday to Wednesday. These are the temperatures at 5pm each day so the highs could possibly be a degree or so warmer. It says we might be able to tie our all time record high for PDX on Tuesday.

Why can't we have regular cold anomalies like we keep having regular warm anomalies?

Haha. Been a very strange summer. After breaking the record for most consecutive days with 0.25”+ of rainfall back in June, we then had our driest first half of July on record (no measurable precip at all from 6/28 to 7/15...super rare to go weeks without rain here in the summer).

Now we’re breaking daily rainfall records again. It’s like Mother Nature can’t make up her mind. I can’t remember anything quite like this.

Was a quick burst though...1” of it fell in just 10 minutes, so it wasn’t an efficient, deep soak. Though we got 3.25” here on two rounds, which makes 4.66” since yesterday afternoon. Badly needed after the last 3 weeks of dry roasting.

Was so thrilled to see rain I just sort of stood out there and let myself get drenched. Something Tim should do more often.

This was the birth of that DCA cell..didn’t expect it, just sort of exploded overhead as I was leaving to go jogging. You can see blue sky in the background at the beginning.

STFU.

I would stand out in a warm thunderstorm too.   I have done it many times.   Even a few times this summer already.   But I am not going to stand outside all winter and spring in 40-degree sideways rain which goes on for days and days.

Your comparison of a 15-minute thunderstorm to months of cold rain is silly.

Wow... this is one of the coolest videos I have ever seen.    Time lapse of iceberg passing by town in Greenland.  It looks like one of those old movie disaster scenes using obvious miniatures... but its real.   Just amazing.

What is that small boat doing right next to that smaller iceberg inside the inlet?

Starting Thursday night, I’ll finally be able to get more than 4hrs of sleep per night. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a full night’s sleep...probably back in April or May? Lol.

I need this reprieve, y’all. I’m about to crack.

Yeah, you make a good point. Though if you believe in mother nature balancing itself out then we should get some cold anomalies soon. Preferably it will happen this winter. Maybe get a really cold month like January 2017.
