My personal opinion is that even if it comes out 11-1 or 10-2 in favor of guilty, they probably won't try the case again.  Would probably be very tempting though.  If it's like 8-4 or even more split than that, I don't think there's a chance in hell that they try again, even in heavily liberal NYC.

Yeah, I think there are good reasons for us all to hope Trump doesn't win this procedural ruling. I don't support his prosecution, but at the same time blanket immunity isn't a good idea.

Yeah, I would generally agree a murder rate is probably going to be relatively trustworthy. Anything below that I have a hard time trusting the data. I have been told specifically NOT to report crime by law enforcement. 

Sure the murder rate went down 20% in Portland last year, but it dropped from a record and is still 2-3X higher than it was in 2019. You can view the drop as a big positive, or you can view it as horrifically high compared to our pre-COVID society. 

Murders by year in Portland:

2021: 92

2022: 101

2023: 77

2024: 26 (On pace for about the same number as last year.

Yeah Portland saw a huge drop last year. Still very high and we aren’t seeing the same drop. Can’t set a record every year.

But if a jury finds they broke a law, that's not 'persecution' which I think is the word you mean?  How it works is literally in our Bill of Rights.

I don’t care what a kangaroo court says. Cohen was not jailed for doing what Trump is accused of. And that’s not even the case the Supreme Court is hearing arguments about.

He was literally an unindicted co-conspirator in Cohen's Federal indictment that he pleaded guilty and went to jail for.  The current NY trial is about Trump falsifying business records to hide his aforementioned accused federal crimes of illegal campaign contributions.  So ya, it's fair to say it isn't the same thing.  But certainly related.

I cannot pass judgement on any of this unless it is known what led to the strike.  Was it justified or was it excessive?  Some French strikes are the former and some are the latter.  Looks like bad communication from the article.

In a semi-related topic:

As far as the airline industry is concerned, I will say that it is not known for caring about worker or passenger comfort or needs.  Their race to the bottom in everything has led to all of this.  Air travel coupled with stock buybacks, cost cutting, razor thin margins, and the public demanding dirt cheap tickets is not exactly a good combination.  All the inconveniences of flying are self inflicted.

It was better when there was more regulation, less financial pressure, and slightly higher ticket prices.
