So what's your opinion on that book he wrote? Mainly this idea.

  1. I agree with the ideas from his book
  2. I disagree with the ideas from his book
  3. I couldn't care less about what he wrote
  4. The book was never written. It's a fake book made up by right-wing conspiracy theorists

Lol.  Why is 4 even an option?

I think we all have biases we need to be self-aware of, especially if it affects those around us.  Have kids gotten poor grades only because of the color of their skin?  Absolutely.  But I think there are better ways to address those biases racial disparities than to remove grading all together

Related, I don't agree with Seattle Public Schools recent decision to get rid of the Gifted and Talented program.

My son is going to be a (relative) genius kindergarter in the public schools not because he's smart or gifted (tbd), it's because his parents have time and mental space to read to him.  And teach him numbers early.  And sound letters. It's hard to do that when you're struggling to just put food on the plate.

As my primary school teacher wife says, there's no such thing as a gifted and talented first grader.  It's 100% privilege at that age.  That percentage goes down as he gets older, but it absolutely will always help until the day he dies.

so #2/#3 is my answer I guess.

It's funny how that goes... my mother is 70 and has never been summoned.  Meanwhile, I've been summoned 3 times but only actually sat on a jury once.  I was 18 or 19 the first time I was summoned, but I got out of it because there was stuff going on in my life that would've made it difficult to serve.  Another time there was a last minute settlement in a case, so I ended up not being needed.

I was in the jury pool for the Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison trial.  They settled just before starting to choose jurors.  I was wrecked.

Labor-Based Grading Contracts: Building Equity and Inclusion in the Compassionate Writing Classroom, 2nd Edition

Not in my local library, but I do see there is a free downloadable PDF of that book on that page. (And not by error; it has a Creative Commons copyright that allows for free distribution.)

It took me about three minutes to conclude it is Marxist garbage (the Table of Contents is your friend), and it gets to the core of (while I am a leftist) I am definitely not a Marxist.

The guy’s theories of racism have nothing to do with it. In fact, I haven’t even read those parts of the book, so I am not qualified to comment on those aspects of it. Rather, it’s the crushing bureaucracy of his plan. He wants all his students to keep a gosh-darn fscking time sheet accounting for all the course work they do.

I am just not into paperwork or bureaucracy. That already made me dislike college. I would never voluntarily be a student in one of this clown's classes. If I found I was, I would have dropped it and taken it via another section taught by another instructor.

And then there is the whole work aspect. What happened to working smarter, not harder? Why should spending four hours on a term paper make the paper automatically better than spending two hours? What about taking a hike in the foothills above campus, getting a great idea, and then writing a paper? Because I spent two hours hiking and two hours writing, I get a worse grade than someone who stayed cooped up at a desk with writer's block for two hours, then spent two hours cranking out a mediocre paper?

Bureaucratic garbage, very USSR-esque. Or, very Corporate Capitalist-esque (big business can be as stiflingly bureaucratic as big government). Right out of workers pretending to look busy for the boss.

He probably wants students to study for tests, too (and tracks this time, and grades on it). That is something else that never worked for me. Either I learned the material the first time, or I didn't. If I studied for a test, all it would do is create test anxiety which would impact my performance on test day. Better to goof off and see a movie the night before the big final exam.

Eff that guy and his micromanaging bureaucratic ways.

But the racial justice aspect of his ideas has nothing to do with it.

Oh, I think one side is just a bit more guilty of that than the other.  Trump has taken the racist nationalist playbook and made it his platform.  He is the GOP nominee and has a real chance at being the next president.

No sane person can make that claim about the left and Biden (even if he is Netanyahu's little biatch).

And I loathe what a lot of the left has become.

Good piece breaking down the lunacy of the ongoing crucifixion of Donald J Trump.

A lot of commenters echoing my sentiments. This is a complete joke of a kangaroo court with a predetermined outcome. If somehow there is one righteous juror, then they will attempt to kill Trump before the election. This is obvious to anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear.

As the national polls tighten we need to keep an eye on the swing state battleground polls. It is very likely Biden wins the popular vote, but possible he loses the election anyway as our founders wisely saw how corrupt and wicked large states like New York or California could tip the balance of the popular vote. As much as this system is maligned, many other foreign heads of state have been elected while losing the "popular" vote due to the idiosyncrasies of their various electoral systems. A prime example would be the effeminate pathetic excuse of a "man" who leads the joke of a nation to our north.

BREAKING POLL NUMBERS FROM BLOOMBERG

North Carolina: TRUMP +10%

Nevada: TRUMP +8

Arizona: TRUMP +7

Georgia: TRUMP +6

Wisconsin: TRUMP +4

Pennsylvania: TRUMP +1

Michigan: biden +2

A small silver lining for Biden as he narrowly leads in Michigan in this poll.  Nevada quickly turning into a RED state as folx continue to flee OR, WA, and CA.

Yes, projecting a traditional level of masculinity is "repressed homosexuality." And you spew it as an insult, which is ironic, what does that say about your repressed negative feelings towards our homosexual brothers?

You are also stereotyping gay people, most gay folx I know are not "effeminate."

Nikki Haley dropped out over a month and a half ago and yet she just pulled 157k votes in the PA primary, enough for almost 17%. Earlier this month, she received 13% of Wisconsin and New York primary votes as well as 11% of Rhode Island votes and 14% in Connecticut. In most of those states, the combined non-Trump vote was around 20%.

It certainly appears that roughly 20% of the Republican party are 'never Trumpers' and will most likely not vote for him in November. Trump was unable to secure 6% of the party in 2020 and lost the election. Even if half that 20% ends up coming home to Trump, that is still a significant hurdle for him to climb within his own party, let alone Independents or moderate Democrats.

I still firmly believe that Trump will lose us this election and we will be staring down the barrel of a Kamala Harris presidency within a year or two. Maybe by 2028 the Republican Party will pull their heads out of their asses and move on from the guy. Although something tells me our party leaders are just not all that smart.

Other issue is that Biden is also HIGHLY unfavorable, and the 2024 election could have a very low turnout from both sides.

And yeah, I do think the polls showing Trump solidly winning are wrong. I'm old enough to remember when polls indicated a large red wave was coming in the 2022 midterms and it was nothing more than a small ripple. Who's to say we aren't seeing a similar phantom wave this go around?

But it won’t, because Biden won’t want to needlessly stir up controversy before the election by doing so.

My guess is that TikTok’s Chinese owners will b*tch and moan for a while, then put their US subsidiary up for sale. Because money (sell subsidiary and pocket a wad of cash versus don’t sell and take a loss on US operations).

You are also stereotyping gay people, most gay folx I know are not "effeminate."

Wasn't an insult to anyone.

People who have to repress their true feelings can act out in strange/overcompensated ways like bragging about boning their wife on a weather forum.

Similar to the politicians who go ham on anti gay legislation but end up being closeted homosexuals.

Let's play a game of hypotheticals.

Assume for a moment that the Trump trial in New York results in a hung jury and no conviction on any counts.  What's everyone's take on whether prosecutors would try the case for a second time?

My personal opinion is that even if it comes out 11-1 or 10-2 in favor of guilty, they probably won't try the case again.  Would probably be very tempting though.  If it's like 8-4 or even more split than that, I don't think there's a chance in hell that they try again, even in heavily liberal NYC.
