After a bit of a lull it looks like another heavy rain event next week with somewhere near an inch of rain possible again. In the short term, mid 80s tomorrow.

Picked up a very unexpected 6" of snowfall here last night. Was expecting maybe an inch or two. Snow cover was melting fast but this just put the brakes on things.

 

Looks like another 1-3" Monday night before we warm up late next week. Next weekend into the week following look quite cold and snowy at this point.

No, our coldest surface temp high in Jan was only 26 degrees. Arctic air didn't quite punch through out here with that event. December/January was a torchfest out here. Our coldest "winter" day was 23/5 on Dec 29th. Our coldest day of this cold season by far was way back in late October with a 15/-5 day on the 29th. 

 

It will be incredibly unusual if our coldest temps of the season are bookended in Oct and March. Been a weird year.

Getting some incredibly heavy snow banding this late afternoon. It's been a cold raw March day with a midday high of only 15F. Sitting at 11F currently. 

 

Looks like about 2" of snowfall so far. Expecting another 3-6" tonight into tomorrow morning.

I had a -3F/-12F day on the 3rd last year and Bozeman Airport had a -4F/-39F day. Truly historic stuff last year.

 

So not quite absurdly frigid but still very impressive considering that we are almost two weeks later. If it wasn't for 1906 we'd be looking at some record low highs and lows.

-1F with snowfall continuing here. Pretty incredible to drop below zero with snowfall in mid March.

Ended up with a high of 14F here today. Temp dropping fast, already back down to 8F with clear skies so it will be interesting to see if we get lower than -1F before midnight.

 

Looks like BZN broke a new record low, high. They had a high of 15F today breaking 1943 record of 20F.

Looks like a decent snow event coming up Thu/Fri. March is usually our snowiest month and we've had hardly any so far, so definitely due for something.

Had some very heavy convective snow banding move through here late this afternoon dropping 2" of snowfall. Looks like another 1-3" later tonight.

 

We haven't been above freezing since last Thursday so it's been a chilly mid March stretch. Still snowing currently and 28F.

Rain turned to snow pretty quickly here this morning. About an inch of slushy accumulation so far. Expecting 4-8" by late tonight.

Another wave of moisture has hit tonight with some very heavy snowfall occurring right now. Probably looking at 2-4" by the morning. Currently 27F.

Lots of snow headed this way beginning tonight lasting through much of the week. Highs dropping into the 20's by Wednesday as well. Could be looking at 12"+ on the ground by Thursday. 

 

We've almost lost all our snowpack in the yard but this week is just going to cover everything up again. Gonna be a late green up this year.

Picked up 5" of heavy wet snow overnight. Looks like a bit of a break later today until late afternoon before the strong cold front moves in with another 3-6" by tomorrow morning.

Had a brief break from the snow around 10am-1pm otherwise it snowed all day. Cold front is pushing through now with some heavy snow banding occurring.

 

I'll still go with another 3-6" tonight but could see upwards of 8" depending on how long these bands stall over the area.

Picked up 7" last night. Brings the two day total to 12". Moderate snowfall is continuing so might pick up another couple of inches.

 

Feels like the middle of winter rather than April. Only 16F with a bit of a north wind. Should easily drop into the low single digits tonight if we clear out at all.

Typical spring pattern here. Warm with highs in the mid to upper 60s today, then cooling into the 30s tomorrow with rain and snow. Might see a few inches tomorrow night.

Looks like Montana had a lot of snow in March!

 

Funny story. I was actually offered a great job in Western Montana in early March. Really wanted to take it, but with everything going on I felt like it would be in very poor form to abandon my current company during this crisis. Maybe someday.

Same...kind of ready to move on to Spring at this point.

 

Snowpack took a big hit today with temps in the low 50's. Lots of bare ground again. Looks like we may see our first 60+ day later this week before the snow and cold arrives again.

Very warm last couple of days. Got up to 73 on Monday and 74 yesterday. Today should be around 70, then we cool off slightly for a few days before things get very cold early next week.

Hit 61F today, first 60+ of the year here.

 

The warmth is short lived however with a Winter Storm Watch issued beginning early Saturday morning for 4-8" of snowfall. Temps look to steadily drop throughout the day on Saturday from the upper 30's down into the teens by late afternoon. Looks like some strong northerly winds will also accompany the storm so plenty of drifting will likely occur. Should be a fun storm to track.

 

Looks like some record low highs and lows are in jeopardy on Sunday and Monday as well. So basically winter is coming back...again.

Next week looks ridiculously cold. Especially early...some record low max's could be in jeopardy.

 

Speaking of ridiculous cold, on this date in 2013 DEN had a high of 18. Far and away the coldest day this late in the season - next closest is 3/25.

Heavy snow just began here with dropping temps. It was 41F at midnight and it's now down to 29F.

 

Temps should continue to drop throughout the day along with moderate to heavy snow throughout the day into tonight. Still expecting 4-8" by tomorrow morning.

Picked up 8" of snow over the last 24 hours. Really dry powdery snow, very mid January like. Currently 11F which is my low for the day and still lightly snowing. Pretty incredible cold and snow for mid April.

 

Great Falls cleared out this morning and fell to -3F which shattered the old record of 7F back in 1997.

At 10 pm last night it still 59 degrees. Woke up this morning and there's a couple inches of snow on the ground and it was 22 degrees. May not get above freezing for another 48 hours, which is insane for mid April.

Pretty awesome satellite shot today showing the widespread snow all over the Northern Rockies and Plains.

 

Still only 19F here at 2pm.

High of only 23F here today. Low was 11F this morning but we'll likely drop below that well before midnight with clear skies currently. As it is, average temp was 16F on the day. Really remarkable for mid-April. Already back down to 17F.

 

Bozeman Airport topped out at 28F which beat the record low, high of 33F for the date set in 1957.

 

Good chance a whole bunch more record lows get set tonight depending on how late the cloud cover and snow holds off.
