Getting breezy and cool and starting to smell like smoke. Apparently an eddy has spun up.

The fog cleared out by 4, but there are some low clouds about. Not real breezy yet.

After trying to push ashore yesterday before sunset, the low clouds got kicked out to sea again during the night. It was very humid this morning.

I like clouds as long as they're pretty and it's not cold and drizzly in middle of the summer. Rain with a temperature of 75 degrees is delightful.

With the smoke out of the way it was easier to admire the intricate forms of the middle and high clouds against the sunset. No nephophobia here either

Remnants of hurricane Genevieve may pass by tomorrow night just off the coast. There's a chance of thunderstorms west of the mountains. Sometimes, however, this can cause a very deep tropical-like marine layer where low clouds reach the coastal slopes and low temperatures are in the mid 70s and highs in the mid 80s even with partial clearing. It happened at the end of July 2006 and also in September 2015.

Humidity is like the East Coast tonight (dew point 72 at John Wayne Airport), but the warmer ocean is nice than that chilly stuff we had in July.

I posted the same SSTA map in the other thread... but you can see the explosion of warmth along the coast down there which is why your weather has suddenly turned very warm and humid.

Sea breeze was still going at midnight here. Looks like there was a pretty strong marine push with some inland areas up to 10 degrees cooler than the same time yesterday.

Drizzle and fog now. 71 degrees, coolest MB has been in close to 2 weeks now. Currently inland penetrance of 2-3 miles.

Inversion must be brutal today. Much cooler than yesterday even where the sun is out.

No beach clearing today. Back to Fogust conditions here. Beaches farther south (Long Beach to SD) have fared much better today, at least for high temps.

Central Valley could be considered California's flyover country. Air quality is about 10 times worse than Los Angeles and Fresno is a dump.

Clearing a bit better today but the Pacific is putting up a fight. Still dense fog at my house, and even worse to the south.

What changed? It’s like we’re back to June, despite the warmer ocean now. There’s also a huge difference between LA county beaches and those farther south, like it was a few weeks ago.

We're back to our boring no monsoon pattern for a while. However, Flagstaff is still having thunderstorms.
