HRRR is showing snow showers approaching Du Page county later tonight. HRRR picking up on two bands. The primary one through Hammond and the IN/IL stateline and a secondary one hugging the north shore. 2 Quote Mercer Island, 350 ft 2021-2022: 11.6", 02/21 2020-2021: 15.6" 2019-2020: ~10" 2018-2019 winter snowfall total: 29.5" 2017-2018: 9.0", 2016-2017: 14.0"

You never know Tony, these winds are strong enough they may push farther inland, like last year during the LES events.
Tony
Yep, I do remember that. Also have seen setups like this make it as far west as Dekalb so will be interesting to watch it unfold. I was not ready for winter to start this early but with the LES and high winds I am getting sucked in.

Made a ton of money shoveling roofs in the city and of course spent it as fast as it was made! There was so much snow piling up that they had to bring trucks in to move the snow to the forest preserves.

Tom
You guys seeing snow??? I see Chicago area is reporting snow at this hour, granted that is way south of you....Tom you get your first snow of the year? It's flipping cold here, second straight night of a hard freeze.NE IL/SE WI received a burst of heavier snow showers in the early morning hours right around sunrise that brought the area its first measurable snows of the season. Then the lake effect kicked in off and on in the evening but wasn't as intense. Skilling knick-named this storm the "Halloween Howler" and it sure did kick up some nice waves on Lake Michigan. Max wave heights reached 21ft on the south shore buoy. Speaking of flippin' cold...take a look at what is billowing up in southern Canada by late next weekend! Sub-zero high temps on fresh snow cover up that way. Now, look at the Euro ensembles correcting the trough farther west and deeper into the central part of the country later on. You put 2 and 2 together and you can start to figure out where this pattern can go late next weekend into the 2nd week of November. The ensembles keep a below normal regime well into mid November. Don't think we are going to see any warm pattern setting up. By the 8th of this month, all global models are showing a negative AO/NAO...like I said before, Strat Warming and Blocking are going to get things rocking this month! All it will take is one system to tug that cold down and it could be a "Clipper" or another system that develops in the center of the country. We shall see. Edit: Just took a look at the 00z GFS run and you can see what I'm talking about. This could become a major arctic invasion for the central/eastern CONUS Day 10 and beyond.

In fact, we may see some cross country storm systems down the road. This pattern is going to light up soon.
Tom
Hello Winter! 00z GFS operational starting to come around as expected since the Euro/GFS ensembles have been honing in on this potential now for 2 days straight. Here is the fast start most snow lovers and winter weather fans have been waiting for! Daytime high temps in the mid/upper 20's for 2-3 days straight around Nov 10-13th. Insane. Wouldn't be all that surprised since the PV has been weakened from the SSW event taking place.
