It has been a very active afternoon in Santa Barbara County Mountains with constant pop up thunderstorms.

High only 84F today compared to yesterday's 100F at my house.

Looks like June Gloom is to stick around the next 2 days despite the fact that it was 94 degrees on Wednesday. Yesterday was one of those 1 in 1000 days where low clouds did not even reach Riverside in the morning, but failed completely clear out.

 

Then it could get hot again next week, away from the beaches at least.

The forecast starts to heat up after Sunday. It's going to a long and hot Summer with hopefully an active monsoon season.

Big raindrops now which must be coming from clouds that are above the marine layer. June is the month that it can be cold and cloudy some days and hot and toasty other days. It's also one of the 2 monghs with the largest increase in average high temperature.

Picked up some drizzle here today, much to my surprise, allowing for me to mark "Trace" for today's precipitation - that's already more than I recorded in all of May.

Some reverse clearing is trying to develop here as the marine layer has skyrocketed in the last 24 hours. Nice thunderstorms over the Central Valley.

More sun at time time today than yesterday, as inversion appears to be weakening.

 

Meanwhile marine layer clouds are visible sitting over the mountains from Coachella Valley.

The marine layer is now 2 layers of clouds with a lower stratus and a higher cloud layer above. Very interesting!

Santa Maria went up to a high of 94F today. 6 degrees hotter than forecasted, no surprise. Low this morning was 47F. Huge diurnal range.
