And it's just going to keep on going per the models. The 00Z GFS ensemble chart keeps the mean at or below -5c through March 5th now.

Gotta hand it to Front Ranger and his insistence on 1989-90 as a viable analog all winter. 

 

Feb. 1990 in Portland - 34/20 with 5" in one day

Compare to 34/23 with 4" that we just saw.

 

The Feb 1990 trough was also a strong N-S digger with minimal offshore flow. Good match!

I think the verdict is still out. The ICON has been terrible at times recently.

 

The 3km NAM remains my model of choice for short term (within 24 hour) precip.

True.  At least it's earned being considered.  The thing that's odd is it has shown this area doing well for several runs.  It must have picked up on the vort max or something.

Too good of a pattern not to deliver. Strong longwave trough here coupled to a SE ridge with record heat along the east coast. Classic pattern for us. I'm glad it delivered for you guys!

Looking up stats as a respite from staring at the porch light to see if it's started snowing yet (it hasn't).

 

Edit: I was looking at Astoria. D'oh! EUG had a high of 32 on 2-21-57.
