Drunk driving is wrong regardless. Citizens and permanent residents of the US are punished for drunk driving. Hell, even legal immigrants face deportation if they cannot remain law-abiding. Obviously the penalties go up if someone is injured or killed as a result of drunk driving. 

So why shouldn't illegal immigrants, who shouldn't even be here in the first place, face deportation if they commit a crime in the country that they shouldn't even be in in the first place? It's not a race thing, I'd feel the exact same way if Canadians were making their way down here en masse.

Don’t agree with the death penalty but do agree there shouldn’t be special rights for those who kill with motor vehicles (as there generally are). Murder should be murder.

Also think there should be more alternatives to driving a car to get around. It’s fundamentally fukked that bars have parking lots. Making people choose between social isolation and reckless driving helps make the latter more tempting.

I agree with your 2nd statement, but yes, the person being an illegal does matter, as they should never have been here in the first place. If they were locked up in Bukele's dungeons in El Salvador the person would still be alive.

Very poor comparison.  Nobody has ever questioned whether men and women should have their own restrooms until now.  This is something that has been totally made up.

With your example there has always been a large group of people that knew it was wrong.

Eh....I lived in Oregon for about 8-9 years, and I would have to say he's not too far off.  And I'm saying that as someone who grew up in the deep DEEP south.

I moved out to Albany Oregon from Athens Georgia with 3 friends, and the first thing we noticed was how WHITE it was.  We went to the Chamber of Commerce to get information about the town we had just moved to, and amongst that was census data, and the realization that during the 1990 there was something like 10-15 black people.  I think the population was about 30-40k at the time....36k comes to mind.  Even the college town of Corvallis was extremely "white" though not as bad as Albany.

It absolutely floored us.  As we made friends with "locals" we shared our observation and learned that Oregon had quite the white supremacist history.  A lot of skinheads, but they got run out in the '80's and settled in Idaho.  Of all the stereotypes I had in mind, white supremacist was absolutely NOT one of them. 

I as settled in and got to know the people and the area, I figured out that as you moved out of the larger towns and cities, and up into the foothills and mountains, they could not be more different.  I quickly learned that "rednecks" were not just a southern phenomena.  Rednecks are different from "country folk."  I can't say I've come across a redneck in Washington or Montana.  Take that back, I've come across a few rednecks in Spokane, but otherwise its just been "country folk"

Country folk are just good 'ole salt of the earth people who will give you the shirt off their back....they have a strong sense of their values (most always conservative) but tend to be of a "live and let live" mindset.

Rednecks are in a lot of ways like Country Folk but there's an edge on them....a darkness.....a sense that you probably shouldn't completely let your guard down around them.  Also not as tolerant of a viewpoint that is different from their own.  I would also say that Rednecks are amongst the furthest of the right.

That's my definition for it anyway...

Why care so much? If a transman walks into the men’s room, how can you tell? Most of them pass as genetically male. I know, I’ve met more than a few. Unless one is into inspecting others’ genitals in such places (in which case, see next paragraph), one would have no idea.

I mean, sure, if someone claims to be transgender in order to pursue their peeping tom hobby, that’s a problem. Always been a potential problem. It’s also a crime in most jurisdictions (voyeurism), and where it’s not a crime, the perp is civilly liable (i.e. can be successfully sued). Also pretty easy to tell if someone is doing that (e.g. lingering in the area, instead of going in, doing one’s business, and promptly leaving). Nobody is proposing professing to be transgendered as a get out of jail free card for violating other peoples’ privacy.

This all sounds like a lot like the hullabaloo a quarter-century ago of same-sex marriages somehow “devaluing” traditional opposite-sex marriages. If your marriage means a lot to you, I don’t see why it can’t continue to mean a lot to you even if more people now have the freedom to have one.

A president who has full immunity would completely negate the judicial branch of our government from exerting it's duty to perform those checks and balances on the executive branch.
