I honestly think Phil gets it the worst. He hardly makes any incorrect posts yet still gets pelted with tomatoes everytime. He was definitely trolling earlier today but who frickin cares, he's truthful about what he's saying

Good thing is, he learned to take it in stride a long time ago. Dude has a sense of humor. Probably helps that his antics as a teenager on here have permanently soured his reputation on the forum (even if I think that's a little unfair...and really funny)

I think Phil would get less flak if there was any reason for him to be posting here.

Fact is that he is part of the family here now.  And that should be enough.

Even when I don't like what he is predicting... I really appreciate his insights.   His trolling has steadily declined over the last 10 years to almost nothing now.    He has grown up right in front of us!

Idk he seems a little on the pessimistic side sometimes. But I don’t really have the knowledge to converse with him in his alphabet soup acronym dialect.

The last time I felt the effects of SAD was during April and May of 2022 when we had winter in spring.    If it happens to me it will almost always be in the April-June period.   Winter rarely bothers me... it just needs to end on time!   I doubt that feeling is unusual.

I’ve never felt the effects of SAD. I can draw strength from the darkness of winter.

people around here suffer from primarily IMBYism. we all do it.  solid science tends to get poo poo'd over 'is it going to snowism' or 'this is unfair, we are the worst climate around for snowism'.  it's very weenie-tastic and I enjoy it and I'm here for it

For a month that will end up close to normal here, this sure is a more interesting way to do it than endless temps in the low 40s. Granted, the latter would be better for mountain snowpack.

YA THINK? Just a little better for the snow pack.

Might this mean the Nino may not collapse all the way into a moderate to strong Nina but instead stay closer to neutral next year?

Looks like 68 was it for Eugene today. Right in line with what the Eiro and NAM were predicting.

Sorry, @TT-SEA, 70-burger denied.

Hoping for 65 here the next 2 days.

It feels that way sometimes. 😆 But I’m reaping what I’ve sowed. Fair is fair.

I don’t think it’s healthy to take personal offense to light trolling (or even an occasional/mild personal attack) on a weather forum, unless it’s something uber extreme and over the top. A lesson I learned the hard way…life will throw enough at you as is.

A WWB of this magnitude will work against a rapid collapse, yes. But there are other factors to consider, as well.

If it had happened yesterday it would not have even been a daily record.

Shocking, isn’t it?

It would be weird if I was obsessively posting in a Maryland/Virginia weather forum.

Not really... if you spent 10+ years with the same people.   I don't think he obsessively posts either.

I think it’s weird to spend 15 years psycho-analyzing the exact reasons someone posts here. Does it matter?

I already know enough about my own region. It’s familiar territory. Minus FL/GA, the PNW is the only region in the country I have any connection to.

I had it really bad as a kid. From the moment school started back up after the new year until about mid March or so was brutal for me. Between hating school and being such a fishing freak I would have a countdown on my wall calendar to opening day of fishing season, and the last day of school. All I could do was watch fishing shows on tv on the weekends, organize my tackle box, and hope for snow in the meantime. The 1986-88 stretch was awful for me I specifically remember. Those dark wet days were tough.
Now life is so busy it doesn’t affect me as much…But it’s still there a bit from time to time.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I think it’s weird to own sheep while lacking any use for them. But I’m sure there’s an individual in Silverton, OR who disagrees with me. ;)

Ultimately it doesn’t concern me what his/her reasons are, because it’s of no relevance to me.

You got a weenie reaction here.  What you feel anxious about must not be on the approved list of things to be anxious about.   :(

Keep on posting.  Although some of what you say goes over my  head, that's on me, not you.  If I was half as smart as I think you are, I would do the same thing.  As an aside, I'm not aware of any restrictions in place by Fred about the location of posters.

yep Phil adds value. Keep on posting brother. I mean if not we'd be stuck with dudes who anticipate winter based on how much black fur a bug in their backyard has or by using an analog from the 1870s as a good guide to what's going to happen in our modern day climate.

Thank you. Not sure I’d consider myself smart given some of my life choices to date, but I appreciate the compliment. :)

I’m going to try and work on my communication skills this year. Need to slow down and process my thoughts better, my geek brain has a million things it wants to say but there are no words to make it flow.
