Eugene went from Feb 1996-Nov 2003 with nothing. Like 2500+ days (by far their longest stretch in the record books). Your streak won't last that long.

No. Not to mention it isn't in the record books either since they didn't fuckking take snow data from 1996-2012 for some stupid reason. In the Nov 2003 event, during marching band practice (yes, that was fun), the students at UO said it was the first time they had seen it snowing since they were in middle school.

I have really good memories of the January 2002 snow event. It wasn't amazing in the valley, but the 2-3" we got on the valley floor near Silverton was the best we had done since 1996. That event pounded the foothills and anywhere with elevation. Silver Falls had 18", my brother and I went up to our buddies place up in the hills above Silverton and paintballed with them all afternoon, they had at least a foot at around 1200'. Great memory, bittersweet now, since one of those guys passed away in that Seattle crane disaster in 2019.

I know they talk about a south valley surprise windstorm from 2002.

Yeah that was actually a massive windstorm. In Silverton we were just north of it, though we did get about an inch of surprise snow.

Wow, small world. I guess it was a matter of time before I met a person who had known a victim from that disaster. Sorry about your pal.

He was a good guy, life happens and we all kind of go our separate ways. I went to Oklahoma for college and he joined the military. But I remember a really innocent kid, and I suppose that's how I will always view him. It was weird because the day that happened, an old friend was out here helping me put up some fencing and we talked about him and his brothers, they were beloved in our community growing up. I am still friends with his twin brother, though we have never talked about what happened, I can't imagine how much it must hurt for him.

That ridge is getting much more amplified out in the Pacific, too. Could become a more substantial block if it trends stronger.

The purple-y cold in Canada doesn't have too much staying power as westerly flow kicks in, but cold air can stick around in the low lying valleys and such, and the colder the better, I say.

That trough has been trending further east and amplifying the past few runs. Almost to pay dirt. Now if only there could be a solid connection to that cold airmass and pull it south...

Now I want to see that jet be suppressed more in the LR than the 00z. That ended in a heaping trashfire of endless zonal flow. Hard to break out of those patterns, as evidenced by, well, this entire winter up until a week ago.

Though I'd imagine that any jet extension would be transient at this point in the season as -ENSO climatology increases in influence more and more.
