There was almost no smoke last summer.   The smoke was focused during a 2-week period in September... which is fall.  And it was triggered by a record setting cold trough.

Best case scenario for the next couple months is a wet CA with tons of mountain snow.

Euro does give a little wet snow North of Everett and a few inches for Whatcom County Sunday night though as a secondary low forms around the North Sound.

Apparently Nanaimo's city center has moved to the top of Mount Benson. The track of the low does look pretty good for central East Vancouver Island, but temperatures are very borderline for significant accumulation at lower elevations.

PDX Airport reported a Trace several times and a whopping 0.5" on March 14th.
