I don't think we ever saw the sun in February 2017, that month was a complete wash out. Had a decent amount of snow late in the month with cold onshore flow. But we might have had 2-3 sunny days total in February/March that year.

One thought I just had is a big cold wave in the east might finally stop the progressiveness of the pattern and allow the AL to retrograde back to the NW Pacific. You can see hints of that on some model runs. The current regime is doing nobody any good at all.

It is. Especially with how mild their climate is overall, he lived a few miles inland right off the fog belt, so summers were incredibly pleasant, sunny with highs in the upper 70s. But they could have a week at a time with sun and highs in the 60s/70s in February and March. Then get an inch or so a week later with the cold onshore flow. He said their only period of sustained hot weather was in September/October 2022 with offshore flow dominating. They did decent with radiational cooling though, a lot of frost and lows in the 20s during the cold season.
