It's drizzling again

Satellite shows clouds from what is left of a front moving toward Pt Conception w/ possible showers even further south later in the day. Marine layer is weak and scattered.

It's getting a bit late to see 102-104 degree readings. It would be a first for the LBC this late into October.

Records for the day and latest day in the year will likely occur it appears.

Looks like a good Santa Ana is getting ready to setup for the next 4 days.  Mon night into Tues looks like the best time frame.  NWS in San Diego is only thinking 40 mph gust as the moment (in cajon), which looks okay with the pressure gradient that will be setting up.  Models are a little bit more aggressive with these winds.  The CA WRF has almost 60, but that may be over doing it because there will only be a 6mb gradient between SAN and TPH.  Either way, with 850mb Temps at 20-22 Monday into Tues temperature will be soaring, with the IE getting close to many 100 in many location.  Corona/Norco looks to be above 100 Monday.  RH is going to be single digits of course, so the fire weather will be critical.  Always holding my breath watching these develop from up here in SLC.

Very thick clouds today, but no rain or drizzle until now. Some reverse clearing is trying to get going.

NWS_LA is reporting 0.10 for USC today but none of the other NWS stations in LA county/ Ventura county recorded rain; likely a malfunction. There were some rain totals of a few hundreds of an inch in San Diego county and a fair amount of rain in northern Santa Barbara/ San Luis Obispo counties.

Coldest day of the fall so far, but looks like the coolness will not last long.

A few low clouds still remain this morning as offshore flow is slow to develop. Should be a nice day today.

Tied lowest minimum for month: 58°. San Diego recorded 59F on 10/10; that is lowest for USC also. Wonder when both USC/ Lindbergh Field will record minimums below 50?

Still rather mild today as the heat wave does not begin until tomorrow. Tomorrow will be the last day of the year that the sun reaches more than 45 degrees above the horizon at its highest point of the day.

Light steady ENE wind overnight. A check of usual santa ana wind prone stations [Fontana/ Corona/ Santa Ana canyon] show low velocities so far. The worst fire danger conditions were in NorCal earlier this month but now SoCal is facing severe risk this week.

Today's temperatures will be similar to those of June 20, 2016 west of the mountains. That day was the longest day of the year. Today the sun will not even reach an elevation of 45 degrees above the horizon for L.A. and Orange County.

If we were in standard time, sunset tonight would be 5:07 PM, just 21 minutes later than on the Winter Solstice. The Equation of Time is the reason for such early sunsets just one month into the fall. Today is the first of 21 days in a row that solar noon is either 12:34 PM or 11:34 AM.

Ouch! It was 108F on 6/20/16 here. I don't think it will get that hot but this is the 9AM data close by.
