December 2015 in the Pacific Northwest

40F in pomeroy with strong SW wind. 34 in Pullman Moscow airport with a moderate S wind. Still 32 in town and snowing heavily though. I'm giving it an hour to switch to rain and ruin a lot of the snowpack. We might get dry slotted or somehow go through the southern sector of the low at 34. I guess time will tell whether this will be an epic storm or a the warning is a bust.

This is one of those semi rare cases were the further south you are, the better the chances of seeing snow. Oh well, perhaps we will see something further north around Christmas.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Do you find it difficult to be so negative the rest of the year with all the snow you get there? ;)

I have been positive all year. Like I was negative last spring and summer? Or the year before that?

Looks like the areas receiving snow currently will be back to rain at the lower elevations...

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...CORRECTED
  NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA
  331 PM PST MON DEC 21 2015

  SHORT TERM...
A STRONG SURFACE LOW WAS MOVING ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST INTERIOR AT
THIS TIME. WET BULB COOLING EFFECTS CAUSED RAIN TO CHANGE OVER TO
SNOW OR A RAIN/SNOW MIX ACROSS THE LOWLANDS /MAINLY AT OR ABOVE
400 FEET/ TODAY. THERE WAS SOME ACCUMULATION WEST OF THE HOOD
CANAL...BETWEEN SHELTON AND MCCLEARY...AND ON PARTS OF THE EAST
PUGET SOUND LOWLANDS. THE FLOW WAS BECOMING STRONG ONSHORE...SO
EXPECT THE SNOW OR RAIN/SNOW MIX TO CHANGE BACK OVER TO RAIN.

THE STRONG ONSHORE FLOW WILL LIKELY LEAD TO A BURST OF GUSTY WINDS
ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST INTERIOR /MAINLY SOUTH OF OLYMPIA/ LATE
THIS AFTERNOON. THE WIND ADVISORY WAS EXTENDED UNTIL 6 PM PST DUE
TO THE LATER ONSET OF THE WESTERLY WINDS.

SNOQUALMIE PASS HAS NOW PICKED UP A FOOT SNOW SO FAR. ANOTHER 4 TO
7 INCHES OF SNOW IS LIKELY IN THE CASCADES OF KING AND SNOHOMISH
COUNTIES THROUGH TONIGHT. THE CASCADES OF PIERCE AND LEWIS COUNTIES
SHOULD SEE ANOTHER 1 TO 2 FEET OF SNOW.

MEANWHILE...WESTERN WA WILL MOSTLY REMAIN ON THE POLEWARD SIDE OF
THE JET DURING THIS PERIOD. ANTICIPATE A VIGOROUS LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM TO BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF HEAVY SNOW TO PARTS OF THE
CASCADES LATE TUE THROUGH WED NIGHT THUS...A WINTER STORM WATCH
WAS ISSUED FOR THE CASCADES FROM SNOHOMISH COUNTY SOUTHWARD.
AMOUNTS COULD BE EXCESSIVE DURING THIS PERIOD OR APPROACHING NEAR
  4 FEET ON MOUNT RAINIER.

A COLD UPPER LEVEL TROF WILL SETTLE OVER THE REGION ON THU BEFORE
MOVING EASTWARD DURING CHRISTMAS DAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL NOT HAVE
MUCH MOISTURE TO WORK WITH BUT THERE WILL BE ENOUGH INSTABILITY
FOR A RISK OF SHOWERS. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL PLUMMET TO NEAR SEA
LEVEL CHRISTMAS EVE...SO SOME LOWLAND SITES COULD SEE A FEW
SNOWFLAKES CHRISTMAS EVE OR CHRISTMAS MORNING.
AT THIS TIME...NOT
ANTICIPATING ANY SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATION. STRONG NORTHERLY FLOW
WILL DEVELOP CHRISTMAS DAY AND DRY OUT THE AIR MASS FOR A
  CLEARING TREND.

  .LONG TERM...
AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL PREVAIL OVER THE REGION ON SATURDAY FOR
DRY AND SUNNIER WEATHER BUT TEMPS WILL BE BELOW NORMAL. EXPECT A
WEAKENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TO BRING A THREAT OF PRECIP TO THE
  AREA SUNDAY AND MON.

Looks like Snoqualmie Pass is now closed in both directions. And they are going to get blasted again tomorrow night into Wednesday...I think the Cascades are going to survive the upcoming first part of January ridge of death just fine.

Haha, Unless there is blowing and drifting, I think you are exaggerating a little.

Not sure... it was crazy there for awhile.   Flakes are smaller now and visibility is up.

Does anyone know where this Low press. system is located as of now? NWS says its still yet to being tracking northeast.....but where the hell is it at now?

Looks like its close to Walla Walla now.
