December 12-14th Snow and Rain system

it's going to be up in the air, but someone is going to get absolutely rocked. I think Clint or Gabel will be the winners. Hopefully that defo bad forms over LNK/OMA later.

I'm hoping the mets are underplaying the cold air. It's about time we all get something out of a loaded ULL. The moisture laid down from this storm will be an all time record for most; i'm hoping it all doesn't come in the form of rain......

Wx, I hope your right! Jim Flowers is the only one saying much. The spread in models for lincoln is 0-9 inches. Per national weather service in valley. And there going with maybe 1/2 in.

Yeah, I feel like I'm sitting in just about the best spot if the heavier bands can make it this far North.  Temps have been around 34-35 all afternoon.

So far this system hasn't produced big rain totals yet. Sitting at about 0.25".

Been watching the rain/snow line moving northeast towards NE.

Hickman has had .85 for the whole storm!! Bust

Wow, I figured you would have at least 1.5 to 2 inches in your area. Looks like areas a few miles to the southeast have received 2 1/2 to 3+ inches of rain so far with this storm. Nearing 2 inches of total rainfall here across the Omaha metro, Eppley was at 1.90 inches of rainfall as of 7pm, with another inch to inch and a half of moisture on the way tonight.

Even though I am bummed that this was a cold heavy rain storm for our region, the thunderstorms last night provided some excitement and the fact that this storm was so rare for mid-December has made it fascinating to watch. Hoping for a snowy surprise here in Omaha tonight, but I am not counting on much, but there is still a chance this system could surprise.

Water in my basement. Have had 4-5" rains in 3-4 hours with saturated ground in the summer,, but this is way worse.  No vegetation alive to suck this water out of the ground. This really sucks...

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Welcome to the forum SnowO. Thanks for the report - even though it was a bust.

Snow indicated on radar in Nebraska now.

Reported but not happening here. Just took out the trash. It is raining sideways with winds gusting to 40 mph but 34 degrees. Beyond frustrated.

Worst type of events. Stuff of nightmares.

I remember seeing more of those types of events back in the early 2000's and 90s here. Can't remember the last time it rained in the mid 30s for an extended period and the changeover was really slow.

0.60" of rain here. Not as warm either as it was earlier.

Sitting at 39 degrees here in Lincoln and have been all day. Actually got up to 40 degrees in the early afternoon. If we do get to freezing we are going to need some crazy dynamic cooling to do so. I push snow so will probably be up every hour tonight just to make sure. Going to be a little frustrated if it doesn't snow at all. My luck is if I don't get up in the middle of the night we will end up with half a foot, and if I do it won't snow at all. Guess time will tell.

Beat me to it. 4k NAM looks incredible. HRRR not bad, but a "dry slot" over lincoln, where the warm air kills the snow. I think we get something, it's starting way early in Central Nebraska.

EDIT: THe things i'd do to see a live feed from phillipsburg right now :o they are getting pummeled! There is no way there isn't frequent lightning there right now.

The snow can't be too far above you CentralNeb.

The bright banding on the radar over you is an indication large snowflakes are in the lower levels.

Zurich, KS  a bit south of Phillipsburg is snow covered.

I was looking to see if there was a traffic cam network in south central Nebraska, to try to figure out where it was snowing. It doesn't look like there's too many camera out that way.

This area is really well covered with cameras. Couple cams per 10 miles at the least.

It's nights like this I really hate having snow as one of my passions.  It's like a bad break up every time things don't work out.  NWS downgraded to 1 inch or less in the point forecast.  What a joke.  I'm so done with this.

I definitely feel like that after it hasn't snowed a lot at once in a long time.

I remember one particular storm back in the late 90s. There was a huge moisture transport coming out of the Gulf; a lot like tonight, and 6" or so of snow was forecast to fall between 12 and 6am. It was thought there was going to be enough cold air to produce a decent snow. Went to bed, with a driving rain at 33° - woke up the next morning and there was about 1-2" of slush on the grass and nothing on the pavement. I was pretty disappointed. That was back in the day though, before weather models were really good at handling boundary layers and dynamic cooling.

511 Nebraska has a web camera network. There are cameras 15 miles east at axtell 20 miles southwest by Oxford and 20 miles south near alma. Not the greatest picture quality at all times.

Let me see if I can try that again...

At Kearney I got this camera. The ground looks bright, not sure if it is just lights reflecting off the grass or what.

Just checked outside again and it is raining even harder with a few large snowflakes mixed in. Maybe a changeover is beginning.

I was just going to say wunderground winter radar shows the rain/snow line through the middle of your town.

Guess it is right.

I have to believe that it is not snowing currently in York, the temp there currently is 36 degrees (reported Unknown Precip at the last hour so maybe there's a mix) so it wouldn't take much of a drop to start getting some wintry precip.

The I-80 interchange in York is very bright and well lit at night, so that's why the ground looks white in the picture - but thats just the light reflecting off the dead grass. I have checked this camera on normal weather nights and potential snow nights and it looks the same. Sorry to burst your bubble... don't kill the messenger LOL.

I am noticing that the dry slot that moved up towards the Omaha metro has filled in very nicely the last hour, and now some pretty heavy rains have redeveloped to the south of the city.
