12/26 - 12/29 Potential Wintry & Wet Winter Storm

Awesome, ended up with 8.5". First 6+" storm in years

Been that long huh!

Everything is frozen like a glacier now. Doors were frozen shut on my car this morning. Had a steady temp most of the night just above freezing, so a little compaction occurred. Solid 4" on the ground though.

I got about 1.55" of water yesterday, so that would have been 15" at 10:1 ratio snow. Would have been an epic snowstorm for sure. Can't really complain though. It looks like winter again outside.

An observer near the Jo Daviess County line recorded 1.40". http://cocorahs.org/Maps/ViewMap.aspx?state=usa

MKE highballed the snow and lowballed the liquid I think.  They reported 9.0" of snow yet not even an inch of precipitation.  I trust yours more as the radar estimates seemed to estimate more than what MKE and a lot of other sites reported, and the radar display and rate of precip seemed to me to be more than an inch of liquid.

I don't know when Cocorahs observers measured their sleet and snow, but some were low balling it for sure. Total depth around 4" is about right though. After the sleet started yesterday; after 2" of snow, it did compact. Then eventually you could see the accumulation start taking off again towards sundown. Some spots in Kenosha recorded close to 6", Lake Forest a little south of here, hit 6" too.

Milwaukee's biggest bust was that they underestimated the CAA. They were expecting the lake to warm up the eastern part of the state a lot sooner. It never got above freezing until the low reached northern IL. And by then it was only mist and fog that was falling here.

Nice write up by LOT.

Kind of funny, snow drifted inside on the buildings at the NWS in Green Bay! http://www.weather.gov/grb/122815_Snowstorm

That's happened a few times in my garage, when the wind is westerly.

Recap of where the low went.

with the ice and snow it does not look very good. I see the forecast is for winds to only gust to 30 MPH in your area while GRR is thinking the quest could reach 50 MPH over here

This was an ugly storm for my area. Sleet accumulation really makes walking hard or even driving. Winds were strong, but not too severe. No power outages were reported. I prefer 10x snow accumulation than sleet. Everywhere you looked there was ice.  It changed to rain but ice never melted. Temps managed to climb in the upper 30s to around 40.
