Pretty scene up there Snowshoe.

Temp is at 34 here and winds are starting to back out of the north. Looks like the snow will come earlier.

I had a bit of excitement this morning to wake up and see what we got overnight. Excitement was quickly squashed though when I looked outside and all I saw was our slightly green grass with thinnest layer of white in patches. Looked at the obs for the airport and we had one hour with a report of snow just before 7am and visibility only went down to 8 miles.

My parents live up in Yankton, SD and were supposed to get nailed, but only ended up with an inch. Dakota Dunes which is just northwest of Sioux City and only about 30 miles away received 14" though.

Snow starting to break out in the middle of the heavy returns in McHenry County back to the Rockford area. Slowly cooling here.

More than ready for the changeover to snow!  Raining steadily here in the NW burbs of Milwaukee with surface temps near or below freezing.  Trees and grass are really getting glazed over.  Lights have even flickered and power went out for a couple of minutes.

Been snowing in the western suburbs, it must be a warm pocket left aloft.

EURO nailed the track.

Should be switching soon. It's been snowing out in Germantown for an hour or so.

Been seeing a few wet flakes on this Lake Geneva cam.

Low is starting to pull out of IL now, so the cold air should get sucked in quickly.

Not the best time of day for accumulation of snow. Hoping the EURO shows something more for later. About 1.5"

2-3" for Milwaukee.

Hmm, HRRR showing the band to the west is the one that will produce the snow.

GFS still has it, so will see what happens. In a dry slot now.

Between 20-21z is when the atmospheric column cools.

Looks like that band is going hit Chicago as well. Going to make for a messy early rush hour.

About 0.3 or 0.4" so far. Sticking to everything but the pavement.

Winds are real calm here now. Hope you get your power back Badgers.

Finished off with 0.6".

Bust on all the models regarding snowfall amounts. EURO handled the track the best.

NWS forecast's were not bad, it was the models that did poorly. Not that surprised given it is late March.

Couple pics.

Lol the power came back on, only for it to go out again mid shower.

That's about as bad as the water cutting to cold all of a sudden.

NOT from the all-critical d5 range it didn't. Again trolled us over here in SMI. Had 24+/- inches for my work site in Lansing before it slowly started shifting half a state north. With all it's upgrades, etc, it still doesn't get real high marks from me. Seems GEM had the best handle on meaningful snow swath across MI anyways. Saw several snowmobilers heading up to get maybe one last ride for the season. Flowers blooming and tree buds popping down in Marshall, so it's kinda cool the two seasons bumping up against each other in the matter of 2 hr drive.

EDIT: Actually it was d4 per this map and looks like they maybe got a dusting overnight sometime - slightly less than 2 feet :P  Idk, maybe it was more off on the thermals than the track, but still a total snow fall bust from d4.

Once the EURO did back off the southern solution idea it was pretty good. It handled the warm front perfectly within 48 hours. GEM busted the worst on temps in N IL and S WI at least, not sure about your area. Pretty much a rule of thumb that if a low is going to come close to Chicago in the early spring, the flow off the cold lakes will keep the warm front around I-80.
