Great work jaster!!! Nothing better than a fresh blanket of snow with your lights!!! I was out fixing lights in the biting cold Sunday; I always turn lights on Saturday after thanksgiving but blew fuses so had to fix! Love this time of the year!!

The Wednesday night system skirting the international border is looking a bit more interesting tonight. Might pick up a quick 2-3” so we can keep pace with the rest of you snowlords.

It's all Tom's fault

Wait a minute! Now GRR is again bullish on LES. Thought this potential was dead tbh

.DISCUSSION...(This evening through next Monday)
Issued at 223 PM EST Mon Nov 26 2018

Synoptic snow has ended as F-gen weakened and moved east. Next up
is the potential for lake effect snow, which is already moving
inland across western Van Buren County. Little if any accumulation
expected this evening but inversion heights rise Tuesday morning
in response to upper low rotating through.

This will allow an uptick in the lake effect in a northwest flow
regime from around 15Z Tuesday to around 06Z Wednesday, with the
potential for snow bands to affect I-94 all the way to Jackson.

This will have to be watched since highly variable visibilities
along with temperatures cold enough to allow road surfaces to
become slippery could lead to hazardous travel, especially on I-94
near and west of Kalamazoo.

LES amounts will be limited by inversion heights around 5 kft with
totals from Tuesday morning through Wednesday night generally in
the 2 to 4 inch range.
Upper heights rise and subsidence and
drying should put an end to the accumulating snow by late Tuesday
night.

DSM has weather records dating back to 1878. This NOV is going to be darn close in cracking the TOP 10 Coldest NOV on the books , but likely fall a few tenths short and being right around 32.6 or 32.7F for an avg temp which would rank #11 or #12 all time. A tough list to crack as some notable cold (2014 and others) are not even close to the Top 10.

#1-  28.7F 1880

#2- 30.0f 1985

#3- 30.3f 1959

#4- 30.9f 1991

#5- 31.1F 1955

#6 32.0F 1896

#7  32.1F 1996

#8  32.2 1891

      32.2  1951

#10 32.3F 1911

#11 32.6F 1976

#12-- LIKELY 2018 32.7F or so

#13 33.2F 1932

#16 33.6F 2014

12z NAM and 3k NAM both upping totals for tomorrow night. 2-4” with a few 5+” lollies just north of the metro. Other models also shifting a bit south. Should be our first measurable snow in over 2 weeks around these parts.

That is good news for your area...hope you get more than expected.

We had intermittent light snow/flurries all day long and as you said, it felt like a January-like day out there.  CAA really doing its work and squeezing out any moisture out of the air.  Everything is frozen solid from the wet nature of the snow.  Wish we didn't have the forthcoming warmth ahead this weekend but I guess, look at the bright side,  nature will give those who haven't put up their Christmas lights another chance.

Yesterday's LES got Battle Creek to all-time #1 snowiest November on record with 21.6" (might be more after today's report), eclipsing Nov 2000's 21" total.

I'm now at #4 - prolly where I end up. Still happy with it!  http://www.uswxforums.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png

As we head towards the end of the month lets see just where November 2018 stands so far in the history books.

At Grand Rapids we will set a new record for the coldest monthly maximum for any November the warmest it has gotten is just 52° the old record was 53° set in 1907. The mean temperature so far is at 35.3° at this time it looks like GR will be in the top 10 coldest Novembers on record. The coldest it has gotten so far is 20° the record is -10.  Grand Rapids has reported 14.0” (the record is 31.0”) of snow so far (here at my house I have recorded 10.9”) Over at Muskegon the mean so far this month is 36.2° they are in the running for a top 15 the warmest maximum is just 51 and that will be a new record the old record was 53 set in 1905. Muskegon has reported 12” of snow fall (the record is 25.7”) Down at Kalamazoo the mean so far is 35.5° that is good for 10th place. The warmest it has gotten in Kzoo is 54° that will be good for 2nd place the old record was 53° set in 1907. The total snow fall in Kzoo is not available.

So this November will be one of the coldest on record in West Michigan and while not the snowiest it will be none the less much snowy then average.

Snowing pretty steady right now. Supposed to get less than an inch but it's already getting white and the radar looks pretty decent. Overperformer??

Same here. Everything already whitening up. MPX said this morning we wouldn’t see any snow reaching the ground until after the evening rush due to the dry air. Whoops.
