Just to mention a few things. When I was growing up, people in general were patriotic and felt blessed to live in one of the greatest countries in the world. People were willing to risk their lives to preserve our freedoms. There was freedom of religion and freedom of speech. The following principles guided our country

  • E pluribus unum (Out of many, one) - People used to assimilate to our culture and our moral standards (Judeo-Christian values). Today being required to do so is offensive. Instead we have moral relativism (no absolute moral standards, everyone does what is right in their own eyes)
  • Inalienable rights granted by our Creator or Nature's God (today government has become the highest authority and replaced God)
  • Limited government, separation of powers (I'll partially have to blame Bush and the Republicans for this one, when they passed the Patriot Act after 9/11, which greatly expanded the power of the federal government)

But Obama and the Democrats said the country had to be "fundamentally transformed" years before Trump walked down the escalator.

When you marry someone, after you say, “I do,” do you then say, “Now that I have you, I want you to fundamentally transform, to be a totally different person. I don’t love you, per se, I love the person I can now turn you into”

Before 2008 we had none of these things

  • Calling rich people, white people, men, parents who don't agree with gender ideology "oppressors" and child abusers. Calling poor people, people of color, women and children of conservative parents "victims" and teaching them they have no hope to succeed in America
  • People being humiliated, censored, fired or even arrested for saying there are only two genders and marriage should be between a man and a woman
  • Punishing doctors who don't prescribe to the government prescribed narrative of how to treat COVID
  • Calling people racists and white supremacists simply for venerating our founding fathers or being patriotic
  • Professors calling the Constitution and Declaration of Independence "trash"
  • Arresting peaceful January 6 protestors and giving them harsh prison sentences while allowing some of the George Floyd rioters to go free
  • Pro-lifers being arrested and considered "a threat to our democracy"
  • The FBI spying on churches to see what pastors are teaching about homosexuality and abortion
  • Violent protests on college campuses that endanger students
  • Wide-open borders allowing an overwhelming influx of unvetted foreigners, along with human traffickers, drug pushers, killer gangs, and dangerous diseases
  • Males claiming to be females to win swimming meets and track races against girls
  • Graphic sex literature being made available to kindergarteners and young elementary school children
  • Boys and girls being told they can medically and surgically change their sex if it “feels right,” even without parental consent
  • Bible studies being banned in public schools, conservative students on college campuses being hated by other students and most professors and afraid to express their views

Nothing in that list has to do with Obama's skin color. Democrats today simply hate America and make it known publicly by refusing to sing the national anthem in public sporting events or the Olympics, posting "death to America" signs on college campuses  and saying racism is just as bad today as it was in the era of slavery. They claim capitalism is racist and that we must rob rich people via redistribution of wealth to help the poor and solve disparities between white people and people of color. They claim to care for the poor, but support lockdowns, vaccine mandates, and crazy climate change measures which actually harm the poor and the marginalized.

Once again Nikki Haley outperforms expectations in a primary race, considering she's been out of the race for two whole months. She pulled 22% in Indiana tonight. On the flip side, Trump who is the de-facto nominee and Republican Party incumbent, was only able to capture 78% of the vote from his own party while he sat in court across from a pornstar who was detailing her alleged affair with him, including describing spanking him with a magazine. On the one hand, a sane, competent, not-soon-to-be-felon who could have won the election as a conservative and on the other hand Donald Trump.

I know I need to get over it but I just... The idiocy of the Republican Party/MAGA today astounds me. They'd rather go down with the ship kicking and screaming as it's lit ablaze instead of grabbing a life vest and getting into another boat. All in the name of supporting someone who doesn't give too shits about them and would take a helicopter off the boat in a second if it was available. So stupid.

I am quite surprised that Haley pulled over 20% here.  We do have an open primary, but this is a solidly Trump type of state and the nomination has long been wrapped up.

Seriously though, what is the alternative? Don't say Haley either. What a joke.

And I take Umbridge at your comment about Trump being in court. You know full well if he had not decided to run again he would not be charged with any of these phony charges. Trump is putting it all on the line for you.

That's definitely a factor, but I'm still surprised.  I'd have to double check but I think Haley failed to break 20% in quite a few other states with open primaries.

And it's just mind-blowing how people could still be suffering from stage-4 TDS! The 5 stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, any many still haven't reached the last stage.

And sadly, most in the Republican party or in politics are part of the swamp, with many being bribed or blackmailed, just like Kari Lake was bribed to quit politics and retire with whatever amount of money it would take from the big sewer critters out east. But she had enough integrity to not fall for that, and thankfully Trump is rich enough that bribe $ aren't as tempting like they could be for someone like Mike Johnson, but I wouldn't be surprised Mike was blackmailed. And Nikki doesn't care about anyone other than keeping the the military industrial complex going so she she can profit as well. How else did she suddenly get rich enough to afford a mansion!? There's LOTS of money to be made supplying wars with machinery, etc! The Bush's, Clintons, etc have lots of blood on their hands by starting foreign wars because of supposed WMDs, etc.

I would find your argument more compelling if you would just call a turd a turd but that is your only choice... because Trump is a complete turd of a human being.   And I am pretty sure he is losing his mind just like Biden.   Stop talking like Trump is some kind of altruistic, benevolent God.   It makes me think you are just a looney and insane as Trump.

I’ve never liked people like her. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to put a dog down, but because it’s annoying is not one of them. I’ve had dogs that were intolerable, or seem untrainable. You rehome them, with someone who is an expert in that breed. I had a Border Collie that was completely insane once and would constantly knock over my disabled brother. I just found someone who was really into Border Collies and gave it to them, I’m sure it had a great life. Noem could have easily rehomed the Wirehair. I don’t care about the infidelity. It’s nothing Nikki Haley didn’t do.

I think Noem wanted to appear like a tough, strong women by putting that in her book, but she definitely screwed up by doing that, and didn't realize many Americans think just as much of their pets as their children! Children should be much more important, but animals shouldn't be abused either. I always hated killing anything other than pests like insects or mice and rats that p**s me off. 🥴

There is no alternative at this point. We are stuck between a f*cking horrible former president or an even worse current president. Third election in a row where people will go "well I guess this one sucks slightly less" because people can't pull their heads out of their asses and care enough about the contest to participate in the primaries. Now we will reap what we sow, again.

I'm not saying this NY fraud trial isn't a sham. It's easily the weakest of all cases and it's pretty apparent that it's main purpose is to fork out salacious details about an affair that occurred almost 20 years ago that the media can run with. Doesn't make the juxtaposition any less frustrating though.

Hate to break it to ya bud, but Trump was endorsed by close to 200 of the people you just called "the swamp" while Haley had the endorsement of... wait, let me check... three members of the entire Congress. You tell me who is more a part of the swamp in that scenario.

Not to mention, I thought Trump was going to drain the swamp? What happened to that? He didn't drain shit. Instead, he became a part of the swamp because SURPRISE! the swamp means you get power and influence, something Trump absolutely loves. As for the Noem dog stuff, that is probably one of the most boneheaded political decisions I have ever seen. What in the hell was she thinking? The story might play a little bit in SD but she should have realized 95% of the country do not view pets the same way that farmers/ranchers do. And even if they did, why even take the risk? She must have been told by Lord Trump that she wasn't going to be his VP pick and she thought to herself "oh, this will surely help my chances" and threw a hail mary. Now she can kiss any national political ambitions goodbye, at least for a while. What an idiot.

Not many that are in politics. Trump will likely appoint some swamp people to various positions because there's not much good to choose from. But he needs to make sure he chooses the right VP that supports his America first policies! That's why it's good he's waiting to reveal his choice because Noem's mistakes would've hurt him bigly! Plus people would have more time to go after his choice.

I doubt there's any way he'll get the swamp totally drained in his next term unless he does what Argentina's Javier Milei did.

Trump wants a woman VP to properly counter the Biden/Harris POTUS/VP.

I think Trump found out about what Noem did and axed her from being Trump's VP. At least he knew better than having her.

Usually happens closer to the nominating convention based on what I recall.

No, it's usually right before the convention. I remember Cheney being picked in July/August.

In a lot of ways Noem reminds me of my ex wife. I don't think she'd shoot a dog, but if she did she would definitely think other people would think it was cool.

I doubt there's any way he'll get the swamp totally drained in his next term unless he does what Argentina's Javier Milei did.

What are you even talking about dude? "Totally drained"? Remind me again: Did he drain any part of the swamp over the four years he was in office? For every Liz Cheney there is a Tim Scott. For every Mitt Romney there is an Elise Stefanik.

Again, he didn't drain shit. He just kicked out whoever wasn't loyal to him and replaced them with sycophants. Last I checked, that's not draining the swamp. That's just re-filling it with even more swampy creatures.

Just as a reminder for those who weren't around here back then and think I'm just some closet Democrat, like Andrew wants to paint me as: I was a huge Trump supporter in 2016 (and I reluctantly voted for him again in 2020). I was onboard the #TrumpTrain from the moment it left the station in 2015. I thought we had a chance to get a political outsider into DC who would just blow stuff up, which I thought we needed. Instead we got a weak-minded, narcissistic, egotistical moron who couldn't get out of his own way. I liked many of the policies he put into place but good Lord Almighty every policy win was completely overshadowed by whatever crazy crap he said that day.

If I had to look back on a 'last straw' moment it was probably when he went after General Mattis, calling him the "world's most overrated general" simply because Mattis came out and said some stuff about Trump that he didn't like. Like seriously dude?! You are going to question the patriotism of someone who has been in the military for almost their entire life while you got out of the draft because of "bone spurs" in your heel? Get the hell outta here with that.

Well her district does have a Partisan lean of D+30. So essentially it's filled with the kinds of people who want to give the worst ideas from a failed state (Somali) a try. We're talking about a woman who would have probably been the victim of horrific cultural practices if she had not immigrated to America, yet she hates us anyways.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I still can't believe what a wild year that was. Between the riots and the weird pandemic stuff... I think he was pretty caught off guard by it all. I don't think he will hesitate to send the military into Portland or Seattle this time around.

2020 still leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.  I still can't wrap my head around the sheit the local governing bodies in this country tolerated during that.  About the only punishment that was given to anyone was dished out by a 17 year old kid.

I will never forgive the Democrats for what they allowed in that horrible year.  It's a big part of what drove my friend to off himself.

To me it's so odd that a bunch of lunatics from Somalia chose one of the coldest places in the United States to set up shop, but that's a completely different topic.

I think you are kind of off the mark here.  It all boils down to how the idiot Republicans in Congress completely stymied everything Trump tried to get accomplished.  The Republicans could have implemented huge changes in that year, and they chose to cave to the putrid/corrupt establishment.  I'll never forget how dismayed Rush Limbaugh was during that time.

I honestly don't know if there is any chance of pulling ourselves back from the abyss now, but it's possible.

As for the Generals Trump criticized...they had it coming.  It just blows my mind how many of them have an America last mindset.  I have tons of respect for our men and women in uniform, but the upper echelons have been corrupted by power.

Trump in 2016: "I alone can fix Washington DC."

Trump in 2020: "I alone can fix Washington DC."

Trump in 2024: "Send me back. I alone can fix Washington DC."

Sooner or later, you have to realize that either he alone can't do diddly squat or he is straight up lying to you. In agreement with your second point, it's apparent that the swamp will never be drained but he didn't really try, now did he? To frame Trump as some sort of anti-swamp hero, like Stormy was trying to do, is just completely false. He is now as much a part of the swamp as anybody else in that town.

He did an incredible amount considering the head winds he was facing.  With a Congress willing to work with him it could be amazing.

Great opinion piece written by Alan Dershowitz on what a sham the Trump trial really is.

Trump’s trial is a stupendous legal catastrophe (msn.com)

Ok, let me put it more plainly: In what way did Trump "drain the swamp"? Can you point to any specific actions he took that accomplished that goal?

Good.  We need to focus on the end game here.  MTG is just too impatient.  I'm pretty sure the Republicans would lose their House majority if we go through another Speaker fiasco.  I get her disgust with what is going on, but we need to be playing the long game.

One great thing he did is implement an executive order to cut two regulations for every one new regulation that was enacted.  Kind of circumventing the swamp I guess.  I did read one article about him taking an ax to one of the bureaucracies during his term.  Can't remember which one or the details.  Overall, I was just too frustrated with the stupid Republican House stabbing him in the back every chance they got.

It's pretty crazy when people like me think she is off the deep end...

I think she has good goals, but is just too impatient.
