March 2019 Weather Discussion in the PNW

ECMWF is definitely more troughy next week... rain looks pretty sparse though.

There is a little mountain snow as well... and more to the south.

Total snow over the next 10 days...

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

00Z EPS brings the trough in to our south next week... but close enough at day 8 and 9 to probably bring some rain.

But overall... its still a mix of ridging and split flow with the action focused mainly on CA.   This would be a great pattern as long as we can get some meaningful rain at times.     Vegetation will really come to life with some rain mixed in between the warm, sunny periods.

Despite a lack of recent precipitation Oregon's snow pack #'s seem to be holding their own.

Noticeable improvement on the EPS.

Specifically in the 7-10 day period?

The next week looks less troughy than it once did... and the 10-15 day period shows split flow and generally warm.

Or maybe you like spring now and your definition of improvement is a little different.

I think Jesse slammed his head right on a nail yesterday when he pointed out that at least we are getting this crap out of the way early so we can move back into a cooler wetter pattern.

He wants rain too!! Another day or two of it would set us up nicely for another record hot and dry summer.

True. Another 3-5 days of weak underachieving troughing will set us up for a 3 week run of record highs!

50F rain is just better, feels nicer. 45F rain is better yet.

I honestly don't know how anyone can be so deranged. 45F rain does not feel nicer than 50F rain, period.

I was reading some comments from a snowmobile rider up near our cabin in the cariboo. Apparently the below average snowpack and cold February resulted in nearly 3 feet of ice on the lakes there. Could be a late melt out this year.

Has the snowpack caught up up there, or was the cold period in February-early March drier further north.

Might hit 80 today at this rate in Seattle. Was reading that it got to 76 at the airport I believe yesterday. Would be the first 80 degree temp recorded at Sea tac in March ever if it happens. Crazy weather shift. Was 35 for a high temp on 3/6 and 38 on 3/8. then all the way to 66 on 3/17, 75 On 3/18 and maybe 80 on 3/19. (Those are temps in Tacoma not Sea tac)

Get the feeling it will get real close to 80 but may not cross the threshold. Will be interesting to see wouldn’t suprise me if it crosses 80 also. Temps this morning 10-15 degrees warmer in the mid 60s near the foothills but once you go west its in the mid 50s.

Already 60 and it’s still not 11am. Closing in on 70 near the foothills too.High should be something like 78-82 today. Either way it’ll be one of the warmest days on record for March for everyone.

SEA already hit 70 degrees at 9:55 AM.

Just absolutely ridiculous and 15 degrees warmer than yesterday at that time, which still ended up being the warmest Winter day in recorded history.

A 32 mph East wind though, which will cap afternoon heating some.

SEA wasn’t even around in 1928. And I doubt they hit 80 today.

No, but but to clarify, the all-time high for today is 76 for the city. This record was obviously taken in downtown.

I don't think SEA will hit 80 as well, but it'll be close. Look like 11AM reading is 70F.
