It is really beginning to feel like fall here in Socal. I am sure it will get warm to hot again toward the end of the month, but I would really be surprised if it is as hot and muggy as it was last week. More likely it will be a drier heat (not Santa Ana wind dry), so the nights would probably not be nearly as warm as those last week.

All this eddying has done a lot to keep the ocean temps from plummeting locally—it still has to stand a few more days of a passing storm.

Why is it raining in September? Typhoon Merbok’s remnants (which hit Alaska) may be contributing by gouging an unseasonably deep trough into the jet stream:
