Low was 58F this morning, first time we've dipped below 60F (or come anywhere near it) since early July.

It is really beginning to feel like fall here in Socal. I am sure it will get warm to hot again toward the end of the month, but I would really be surprised if it is as hot and muggy as it was last week. More likely it will be a drier heat (not Santa Ana wind dry), so the nights would probably not be nearly as warm as those last week.

We're coming close to the day when the shadow of the tip of a sundial will follow a straight line throughout the day. Other times of the year lt makes half a hyperbola.

Redding is smoky today, but tomorrow they're supposed to have rain with a high of 63.

Nice weather. If the ocean were 10 degrees colder we'd probably have thick clouds and drizzle all day.

All this eddying has done a lot to keep the ocean temps from plummeting locally—it still has to stand a few more days of a passing storm.

Why is it raining in September? Typhoon Merbok’s remnants (which hit Alaska) may be contributing by gouging an unseasonably deep trough into the jet stream:

Very pleasant, by any objective metric. Calm before the “storm.”
