I’m basically right at sea level in Skagit County (well 80’, but I can see the water from the house). In the last 20 years we’ve had greater than 6” on the ground 8 times. Nov 2006, Dec 2008, Feb 2011, Feb 2019, Jan 2020, Feb 2021, Dec 2021, Dec 2022. I think Jan 2012 was pretty close as well. I imagine it’s slightly better odds as you go north, but that’s almost 50% of the years. Of course we’ve been in a pretty good stretch recently.

I've seen winds make a sig difference during winter. Negating the effects of road salt when it otherwise would've melted the snow/icy conditions. It's legit

Don't have a final number for ORD yet, but they had a depth of 3" at noon with rates tapering off shortly after as well as temps above freezing by then, so kind of gives an idea of what the total will be.

The thing that caught me off guard a bit was the amount of mixing despite the lack of any real thermal gradient. The models down here handled it pretty well and showed a fairly muted downslope, helped probably by the fact we had tons of mid level moisture when the gradients were oriented properly. Looking at the 12/03 mountain wave here, it was defined by what was a TON of dry abiabatic assistance. The difference maker there was the departing inland clipper as a strong, but definitely not exceptional, low tracked well offshore. Think it bottomed out around 975mb or so. End result was pretty widespread 60-70mph gusts here in Clark County.
