Traveled down to Longview this afternoon around three. Temp on departure was 46. As we were driving southbound the sky turned dark around Olympia and dumped very wet sloppy rain snow mix all the way to Longview. The temp dropped to 38 degrees in 15 minutes. South winds were also just ripping at the same time. Cold air just couldn't quite make it down to the surface even with the heavy precipitation but it sure did try!

Right before my bigger snow tonight, KMAX radar experiences technical difficulties. Could be out until tomorrow sometime.

People who live in Salem. My friend lives in the S. Salem hills at about 650'. He is closing in on an inch.

Models can't even get one day out right

There were a few events here I thought models handled decently. But yeah for the most part they either give too much or too little compared to reality.

Who cares.

More people live in Salem than in Klamath Falls, let's put it that way. ;)

I like this part of NWS SEA's latest forecast discussion: "It is often a surprise one way or the
other when you open the curtains at daybreak..." That's been true for me at least four times this winter (twice when I wasn't really expecting any sticking snow).

Getting shadowed now but there's moisture blossoming all around with some interesting cells near the coast. I'm expecting 0-27 inches overnight (with anything more than 0 being the surprise).

Nice looking cluster of showers over Gray's Harbor / Mason / Thurston Counties now. This looks promising for the East Puget Sound lowlands. The WRF indicates very favorable trajectory at the 700mb and 850mb levels from here on out tonight...at least for south King County.

Death To Warm Anomalies!

Winter 2023-24 stats

Total Snowfall = 1.0"

Day with 1" or more snow depth = 1

Total Hail = 0.0

Total Ice = 0.2

Coldest Low = 13

Lows 32 or below = 50

Highs 32 or below = 3

Lows 20 or below = 3

Highs 40 or below = 9

Lots of moisture running down the strait tonight. Is it cold enough for snow at your location?

It's 33°, and some flakes are falling. The Lake Samish cam which is just down the road from me and about 100' higher is D**n impressive though...

Nice. Impressive development on radar around there. What town are you in again. I was trying to remember when I was looking at the radar earlier?

I'm just east of I-5 and sitting pretty much right on the Whatcom/Skagit County borderline

So gusty southerlies all through Whatcom Couny tonight with temps in the mid 30's. Had a brief 30 minute snow shower that turned everything white around 1am and has since turned to slush.

The current low sitting north of Vancouver pretty much 33 this up. I must have misread the models. I thought a low was suppose to track east across southern Puget Sound.. Or may I hadn't really looked at the models closely over the past 24-48 hours. BUSt

A low came ashore around Westport around 1-2pm and did just what you thought would happen.

Snowing in most of king county just south and east of I-90 this morning. Would be nice to get some heavier showers.

Was totally dry with nothing here at 5 a.m.

Now we have at least 3 inches of snow and its absolutely dumping snow with very little on the radar.

Looks like Salem is seeing a heavy band of snow and it is sticking in most of that area. The were under the gun for most of the night.

Moderate wet snow here. Probably sticking up where Jesse is.

We're actually back up in Vancouver now. But when we left last night it was starting to stick up there. I bet they could have a half inch or so on the ground at this point.

It's snowing here too now. Was coming down pretty hard a minute or so ago. Slushy accumulations on cars.
