Tom
It's coming down at a nice rate, but not the 2 inch per hour rate that the lake effect snow warning said was possible. You won't see that till the lake plume forms
Tom
It has officially begun! Nice band over N Cook...rippin' pretty good with fatty flakes... http://climate.cod.edu/data/nexrad/LOT/N0Q/LOT.N0Q.20170314.0130.gif

Tom
Tom, how much snow do the models show in the elmhurst/villa park area?I'd say 6" or so...if that lake plume parks itself you can exceed.
BrianJK
Several fingers of bands hitting NE IL...looks like she is coming alive!Looks more like the transient type of waves LOT mentioned as a possibility earlier as oppose to an organized band? Iowawx
What time is the snow supposed to stop in villa park? And what time will heaviest bands move in villa park? Sorry to ask so many questions.
Tom
Transient for now, but more organized later. Models suggest heaviest after 1:00am and then again around 10:00 am tomorrow possibly.
BrianJK
LOT just came out with an updated AFD. Mentions that the lake plume may take longer to develop than previously thought and keep higher totals localized to the lakeshore. Prob more of a widespread 2-5 event I think. Taking a look at the radar, it looks like there are 2 bands over the lake that are joining into one that is pulverizing Lake county right now. The long, skinny band has to be close to 200 miles long...all that energy is combining into one intense plume. I want to stay up long enough to experience it but I'm crashing cause I'm so beat! brianc400
We got a late start, sitting just on the south edge of the Lake County plume in HW but picked up just over an inch of very fluffy soap flakes in the last hour. The ratio is definitely very high. Should be fun for the kids to kick around in the morning.
brianc400
...And just as I post that the visibility plummeted as the intensity jacked up. Nice!
Tom
...And just as I post that the visibility plummeted as the intensity jacked up. Nice!Your getting nailed right now! It's starting to make its way down to N Cook. It's still about 5-10 miles N of me so I'll have to be a little more patient.
Tom
This band looks nasty on radar...it almost looks like its swirling within itself. The upward motion from the convergence must be intense.
Scott26
Its pretty wild over here. Already picked up around 3.5" of lake effect snow. Snow depth around 6" since there was a lot of compaction from the snow that fell last night.

I can barely see out my window, its just all white. I can see this persisting for the next 3-4 hours before it begins to pivot to the south and east.
