May Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Recommended Posts

It has been one of the sunniest, warmest and driest Mays on record to date. Just so we are all on the same page.

Nice trend, hope it keeps up...

18Z GFS is never important... even when it shows warmth.    ;)

At such a crucial time as this with a variety of outcomes possible leading up to memorial day weekend, every run seems important, plus I've been enjoying watching the models unfold these past few days... :)

I don’t really understand any of this. Does it mean the super lolvortex is never going away?

Wasn’t a prediction, just a thought experiment.

Such a different NATL cell this year. Will be fascinating to see how it unfolds through the summer.

Looks like the GBBV is still going strong.  Starting to really worry that it's just going to be a persistent feature for a long time.

So people near the Sound are aware... most of the lowlands never cleared today.

Turned out to be a pretty nice day for Renton/Kent East hill area, I'm in the Cascade-Fairwood area with a pretty good view of Tiger Mtn.  Looking east, I see what you mean, looks pretty murky.

Other than a few vicinity rumblers, not as exciting as I thought today would go. And somehow KLMT missed all of the thunder altogether.. Didn't record any.

Aside from that, today was nicely mild. Enjoyed some crisp mid spring air even when it was raining.

Nice day for a 500 mile drive around the state today! Hit a little drizzle west of North Bend this morning at 4:30am and a shower just east of Ellensburg and by Vantage. Otherwise partly to mostly sunny in Eastern Wa and was around 80 when I was leaving Yakima at 11:30am.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

For those of you keeping track at home...

SEA has had 1 below normal day out of the last 27.

They have also had measurable precip on just 6 of those 27 days.

And the ditches are full of water around here and Lake Goodwin is still extremely high. Also most of northeast Wa is under water currently.

2015, 2016, and now this spring.

All that really matters is that SEA is due for a dry year, though...

That is a pretty glaring thing that is due as well.

Precip departures at SEA:

2014   +9.65

2015   +5.98

2016   +6.33

2017   +9.02

00Z GFS is also way warmer for early next week compared to its 12Z run.   Now more in line with the 12Z ECMWF in that time frame.

How are you enjoying the latest and greatest record warm month?

Enjoying it a bit more now that I have largely been avoiding the forum. Thought I'd check in tonight since the weather the past two days has been tolerable. Sunday was awful. I just stayed in bed from about noon on.

Dave moleski was saying there's a flood warning on the Columbia in Multnomah and Clark counties due to the rain in eastern Oregon. Surprised no one has mentioned that yet.

I think it has more to do with snowmelt far upstream than recent rains in Eastern Oregon.

What are the nicknames of some of the other weather folks in PDX? Does Matt Zaffino have one.  Andrew should know if Rod Hill does.

And yet, we're now seeing the third out of four springs that featured mainly warmer/drier weather than normal. Exceptional streaks of it, really. I've been told spring is the season people need that most.

Unimportant details, though...your post is really all that's needed to sum up recent years. Whatever it takes to justify complaining about weather you don't like.  :P

According to Tim the suicide rate is highly dependent on April rainfall.
