January 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Yeah, to you they don’t, but to some of us they do. You don’t have to stay up past your bedtime if you don’t want to, you make it sound like someone is forcing you to do so.

the stuff that goes over your head is astounding...

SomeTHING is forcing me to, it’s the very subject of everyone’s posts tonight. Can you guess what it is? But be careful with your answer because “it” is actually silent. But when “it” interacts with trees and other deck furniture, they make loud sounds. And for some reason I come here to yell at a 16 year old.

Isn’t it? Now hush, and enjoy what you can of this winter.

Like legit, shut it, and deal with it.

“Great” and “windstorm” don’t belong in the same sentence. A couple weather weirdos get off and the rest of us have to stay up passed their bedtime and pick up limbs in the morning...

Yay for consistency!

Hanukkah Eve gusted to about that number in the W. Valley as well. This is like a mini-version of that storm!

Just going to call out the operational GFS for being horrible with this storm. Wow. Peak gusts on the GFS were in the 20-35 mph range.

Pretty harrowing drive on I-5 south through Cowlitz County tonight. Some limbs on the freeway, streetlights are out, there is a strong south headwind and the clouds on the horizon are lighting up blue and purple from blowing transformers.

We have actually pulled over (away from trees) for the time being to wait out the worst of it.

Wow! I had missed this earlier in the night because I only saw the 3 hour increments, but the North Sound looks to get slammed around 5 a.m.

Look at Northern Whidbey Island with gusts near hurricane force! I guess it's time to sleep for a couple hours and maybe I will have to go out storm watching if it's that crazy.

That's the only shame about  the storm down here in PDX, I would have loved a dawn storm. Oh well, the powerflashes were very dramatic. This was one awesome storm, enjoy it up there!

Dawn? I wish because it would probably awesome to be near the water. According to the models it will be long gone by 7 or 8 am. We look to have at most an hour or two of intensity and by 7 a.m. we're back to gusts in the 20s.

Wide spread power outages between Federal Way and West Seattle. Down trees and a broken power pole made the drive a white knuckle affair.

Now sitting at Alki watching a ferry pass. Will be going to DT and the Viaduct and will have an intermission at Beth’s if there is power.

Wild. This storm. Can’t believe that it isn’t even that strong compared to 2014 or December 2012, yet it has provided higher gusts than the latter and more outages than the former.

Yep! It definitely got here! Wow! First time weather has really woken me up.

Pretty impressive push down the Strait as well on radar. Oh, and can confirm that there is a little lightning embedded in the front. At least 2 flashes in the last few minutes.

Gusts only got up to the mid 30s on my weather station, but mid 50s at 10m seems believable.

Woke up to strong wind, hail, and thunder just a few minutes ago.

I was putting together a mousetrap in the garage after work... the night was ordinary.... then I heard some rain hitting the garage... then it sounded like someone was throwing marbles at the garage. I went to my front door and opened it. Hail accompanied by thunder and lightning and some freaking RIPPPPPPPIN a** winds all at once... not often have I experienced that... that feeling where you actually get nervous that your house is going to blow away.

That was very intense...the house vibrated the thunder was so intense a few minutes ago. Wow! All quiet now though.

Don't you wish you could rewind it and play it again??? It happened so fast and lasted no more than a few minutes. What a wild ride though.
